Do You Handle Bass (or other species) That You've Caught....?
Can’t land, weigh or measure any fish without “handling” it in some manner. Mishandling a bass is letting the fish get over stressed by keeping it out of the water longer than a minute, letting the bass contact dry surfaces like boat carpet and nylon nets, putting the bass in a livewell etc. Tom

Spinning rods for everything?
Spinning in general have high IPT then bait casting reels anywhere between 34-38+ inch per turn or equal to 8:1 or 9:1 bass side casting reels resulting in lower torque to over come high water resistance lures. Tom

St. Croix Victory spinning rods - recommended reels/line to use ?
What size spinning reel do you use? The Victory MF rod bottoms out lifting 3 lbs dead weight* or maximum drag force. The MLXF a little over 2 lbs. dead weight or drag force. No reason to use braid over 10 lbs. Fins Spin5 10lb is .004D, 25 is .006D both are very good braid. I have the 7’1” Victory rod listed and use 15 lb Spin5 braid w/ 7 lb Sniper FC leader (009D) for 5” Senko’s wacky rigged. Braid floats on the surface a good strike indicator for Senko’s. I would use straight FC or Mono where fish with sparse cover but the braid reduced line twist back seating and can’t untwist straight FC or Mono as a back seater. Also use 10 lb Spin5 w/ 5 lb Maxium UG (.008D) leader for slip shot and drop shot. FC leader tends to sink and drag on the bottom whereas mono doesn’t improving strike detection plus stronger knot and abrasion strength. Braid cuts through aquatic vegetation and good for where you fish. Tom

New Video! The Six Must-Have Jig Types for Bass Fishing
Excellent report Glenn👍👍 The things I would add are don’t over look using contrasting color combinations, continually check the jig hook point for sharpness and line knot for abrasion. Jigs attract big bass don’t loose it from dull hook or line failure. Tom

A love letter to mono
OK, my point is mono line doesn’t “stretch” under 30% of the line strength and hook sets done properly when casting over 30 + yards all those bass where hooked at. For all the negative thoughts toward mono line is unfounded. Equal diameters mono is stronger knot strength the FC. Most states have 12 lb LMB so use that instead of 17+ lbs. Tom PM my PB’s were caught using 10 & 12 lbs mono.

Food while you fish?
I don’t eat at O dark 30 normally or when fishing. I do pack a lunch for me or my boater when back seating. Sandwiches are easy to eat on the water so that is my lunch and take a few bottles of water and apple for snack or Kind bars. Coffee on the 45 minute drive to lakes but don’t take it on the water. Most of my fishing is about 6 hours and rarely have a need poop during that time and use a hospital urine container to pee in while fishing. Tom

A love letter to mono
Let me know when any of you braid or FC line users catch one bass the size of my 5 PB’s listed caught on Mono line using jigs. Tom

Spinning rods for everything?
Bass anglers were slow to adopt spinning outfits into their bass fishing. Today it’s about 50-50 ratio. Like conventional casting reels spinning reels have made tremendous design advances and today it’s possible to use either one for everything in bass fishing. Tom

Expectations too high or a common trend?
Until the Op responds with what type of rods & reels he uses suggesting any specific presentations or lures is a WAG! Fir example standard casting tackle puts stick baits out he has boat no need to shore fish etc. Tom

Zzzhhunntt !
The sound of silence on the water being broken by a load splash. Pine song the wind makes from those majestic tall trees. Flock of honkers barking at sunrise. Cry of the Loon at a remote fly in northern lake I can hear in my mind. Dad net I can hear in my dreams. Tom

Expectations too high or a common trend?
Welcome back to bass fishing and the BR site. Glenn has lots of video’s to watch on this site. Beware too much info too fast can overload you and be frustrating. Slow down and develop 1 or 2 presentations you gain confidence with. Don’t know what you have for rods and reels so can’t suggest what to start with. Welcome to BR and feel free to ask questions. Tom

Lithiums or Lead Acid?
Solid State Marine batteries are new to me! Look at the site and very interesting if what is advertised is true. Reminds me of lithium when 1st hit the market. If I was getting a new boat would try it in a heart beat. Tom

A love letter to mono
Most bass anglers are looking for a panacea fishing line that to date doesn’t exist. Braid was the choice for bass anglers in the 50’s, Monofilament Nylon line came out in the 60’s and became very popular with bass anglers. Copolymer blends came out in the mid 70’s still called Mono line but offered better abrasion resistance then most Nylon mono of that era. Fluorocarbon and super braids came out on the 90’s and became popular with bass anglers to this day. Nylon monofilament has the reputation that it stretches, Fluorocarbon line earned the reputation of poor knot strength and braid being poor abrasion resistance. Nylon monofilament line does everything needed in a bass fishing line so take your pick, Tom

Am I using the wrong line??
FLMB as a rule are more wary then their northern cousins and less aggressive. Bass in general aren’t line shy fish however line does affect the lures action and that can and doesn’t affect if a bass will strike. You may have Smallmouth along with NLMB where are fishing. Can’t catch any bass unless it’s active and located where you are fishing, Tom

Early Prespawn and Prespawn favorite lures for PB size fish?
Looking at the start of this post the OP mentions Smallmouth Bass catch. If he looking for PB Smallmouth a jig is still a good choice but location may be different. AJay is the resident Brown expert so I will defer to Andy! Tom
