  1. I can't figure out why people can't just say that there are 2 different brake systems for 2 different types of anglers? I use Diawa, Shimano, and Revo reels. I prefer magnetic brakes myself, but it really comes down to preferance and what you are comfortable with. I've never had any problem with my Revo STX reels and enjoy fishing them even though my favorite is my Diawa Zillion, it just feels right in my hand. My next purchase will probably be the new Curado.
  2. Nope it was the one up in Concord on Loudon Rd
  3. I totally forgot the best part of the whole story. I was looking at the rods in the first place because I had broken the tip of my Triumph a couple of weeks ago and was curious to see what it would cost to replace it. Turns out in this case only cost me $25, and I get whole new rod and a good reel as a bonus ;D The funny thing is I was so excited about the deal on the combo's I forgot to buy the worms I stopped for in the first place
  4. Had a great day Dave, even though the bite was slow. I think I may be putting the gear away for the season soon. The cold weather and other obligations may end the season for me. This truly has been the best season I have ever had. I've caught 1 7lb bass, 2 6lbers. a 5lb and a few 4's as well as catching over 300 fish overall. I've developed myself as an Angler as well. I've gained great confidence in spinnerbaits. I've worked on my jig fishing. I still rely on senko's but not nearly as much. I've learned how and where to carolina rig. Thanks to all of the members here in NH who have made this such a memorable year. Thanks Dave and Jay for fishing with me, and thanks Pain for showing me the power of the Jig. Tight lines everyone -Chuck
  5. Stopped in at Dick's today to pick up some worms. While browsing around I saw a 2 St Croix Triumph rods with Diawa Capricorn spinning reels on the rack for $25. The other one's just like it on the same rack were priced at $130 each. The capicorn reel itself was on sale for $70 on it's own I think. So I look closer at these two rods and realize that someone had priced them wrong. The $25 sticker was supposed to go on a Field and stream 2 piece rod of some kind. I brought one up to the register and told the guy that I think it was priced wrong but would take it if it was that cheap. He told me that it was the right price. Needless to day I walked out with 2 St Croix Combo's today for less then $50. I couldn't believe it. I know there are better rods out there but this was one heck of a deal ;D
  6. Been out twice this past week. Tuesday was good. Got 8 fish, mostly on a white bladed spinnerbait. Thursday was ok. Came home with 4 fish. 1 nice smallie and 1 nice LM. The bite only seemed to be on when it was raining and then stop when the rain stopped. Caught 2 on a jerkbait, one on a senko skipped under a dock, and 1 on a spinnerbait. Gotta keep getting out there before it's to cold to fish. -Chuck
  7. Welcome. I'm a little north of you in NH. I'm sure you'll find plenty of people willing to help you out. There is more great info on this site for bass fishing then anywhere else on the web. -Chuck
  8. Thanks...I might just give that a try. I forgot all about that shop there. It's been years since I've been to it and I just moved back to Manchester. Thanks for reminding me. -Chuck
  9. 310 so far this year
  10. Does anybody know of someone who can repair rods in NH. Preferably around Manchester? I broke the tip off of one of my spinning rods yesterday. Thanks -Chuck
  11. Fall for me has been mostly about location instead of the baits. I've been fishing the same location for the last few weeks and depending on the day the fish seem stacked up on certian spots, I just have to find them. I keep 2 rods rigged up with fast moving baits, a crank and a spinnerbait, and 2 rigged up with slower baits, a senko and a jig or something similiar. Then I just keep moving and trying new areas and coninually switching between fast and slow until I find out where the fish are and if they want it moving that day or slow. Once I find a spot I'll usually fish it for a couple of hours and pull out a good number of nice fish. Hope this helps
  12. another vote for the bluegill. It just such a great looking pattern. Although I think I like it more then the fish. ;D These really are good baits and not that expensive for what you get
  13. Thanks Pain. Nice Fish Jay. I got out on Thursday again. What a beautiful day. I tried fishing the same way I have been for the last 2 weeks. Fast reaction baits in shallow areas of the river with current near the deep channel......Not 1 bite. That is until I went way back into a cove where the water was only about 2 foot deep at best. I could barely troll. I ended up with 5 nice fish for the day in the 1.5-2lb range. All under leaves and in the remaining milfoil. They wouldn't bite anything that moved, only worms and senko's fished real slowly. Just goes to show you that every day is completely different. Enjoy the weather and the water everyone. -Chuck
  14. Nh and other parts of New England Wicked = Good also up here if you ask someone how far away something is they'll give you the time it takes to get there. When some of my cousins from the south came up to visit us it drove them crazy. Cousin-"How far way is the store?" Me- "About 20 minutes"? Cousin - "um okay, how far?" Me "20 MINUTES, oh you mean distance....i don't know, but it takes about 20 minutes to get there." I'm guessing this is dependant on region as well. -Chuck
  15. Thanks Catt! I know that fishing isn't a science, and there are so many variables on each body of water. I'm just always looking for that little edge that can make the difference. If I have good reason to believe that reaction baits will work I'd rather start with those and see if I can get on the bite early. In the end it's always a process and every day is different. It's just nice to have some sort of plan when I hit the water
  16. Good point Catt. I know there is no specific answer. but general temps are what i'm looking for. I'm NH and only too soon will the water freeze over. I've just been having a great end of the season with large fish on reaction type baits and don't want to see it end. I'm curious as to how long I can keep it up before it's too cold and I have to slow down.
  17. There was another post about when do you stop fishing because the water or air gets to cold. My question is at what temps to the fall bite die off and a winter bite kick in? What i mean by this is when do i need to put away the fast fall baits like spinners and cranks in fairly shallow water as bass are feeding up for winter? And at what water temps should I start really winter fishing with something much slower like a jig or worm? Last weekend the water temp by me was 59 degrees and I was killing them on spinnerbaits. I wonder how long this will keep up before the fish slow down. thanks
  18. Learning guitar. Also studying philosophy and world religions.....weird I know, but it interests me
  19. I know that some people have been saying that this fall has been really slow. I don't know what people are talking about. I went out with my Dad again today and caught 1 5lb LM, 4 2+ lb Lm, and a 2lb smallie. This fall has been great so far. I just hope I can get a few more trips in before the water cools down too much. Hope everyone else is getting out there. -Chuck
  20. I prefer this classic formula [(length + girth) x my best guess on the weight] / number of witnesses who might discredit my guess = a lunker everytime ;D
  21. I'm glad someone listed this one. It's the only catch phrase on here that really bothers me. Of course we are going to let the fish tell us what they want. What else would we catch fish on other then what they want. THEY AREN"T GOING TO BITE THINGS THEY DON't WANT!!!!. Yup this one makes me angry >

Last week I fished a small fairly un-pressured pond with another member here (baboosicbass08). Things went really well. He caught his first bass on a spinnerbait and I came home with pictures of the 6lber I caught. It was a good day. Of course that was last week. We tried again yesterday. He met me at my place. We drove over to where I keep my boat, hooked the boat up, and took off for the lake which was 20 minutes away. About 10 minutes down the road my car flashes a warning message saying "voltage low". Well that's strange. Another minute or so later, going down a big hill, my ABS warning comes on, then my Airbag warning light, then some triangle with a squiggly line in it warning. Basically my dashboard looks like a light-brite. At the bottom of this hill there is an old abandoned gas station. We coast into there just off the road. My brakes still work, thankfully. My gas pedal on the other hand does not. So once we stop we're stopped. So far not the best fishing day. We call AAA to come tow the car. And amazingly they are there in about 10 minutes. But they won't take a boat. I need someone with a hitch. I call my in-laws, no luck. I call my Dad, he doesn't have a truck with a hitch, but his neighbor has an old blazer that he can borrow. I get a call back in a few minutes to inform me that he can't get the blazer started. Wonderful. I call everyone I know and most of them are in work. Finally my father-in-law calls back. He's about an hour away but he'll come get us. So now that we know the boat is getting picked up, what do we do in the middle of nowhere for an hour? We of course try and find a place to fish. Less then a quarter mile down the road we see this swamp/pond on the edge of the road. So Dave and I head down there. The only problem is that I don't have locking storage in my boat and can't see it from where we would be fishing. So we have to take everything with us. 9 Rods, 3 giant tackleboxes, and everything else that I don't want taken while we go fishing. We get to the swamp and fish, while making sure not to cast overhead. There are power lines here of course. I can just imagine what the people who drove by every once and awhile thought. Seeing 2 guys basically fishing a puddle on the side of the road with enough gear to fill a small tackle shop. They probably thought we new something special about this place. In my imagination I see someone going home and grabbing there rods to come fish our "magic spot". I mean if you have that many rods and that much tackle you must know what you are doing right? ;D Eventually I get my hands on a truck, and make it home. No fish. No real fishing either. An overall wasted day. $700 dollars in repairs on my car. But at least I have a place I can rant about it. I sincerely hope that everyone else has a better week on the water then I did. Peace -Chuck
  23. I do the same thing to at night when I get home from work. I'll throw on a fishing dvd, lay down and crash. Nothing helps me sleep like KVD explaining different blade configurations......I think I have a problem ;D
  24. Only been to Northwood once. It was really early in the season. I didn't catch anything and the fishing was slow but I think that had alot to do with the water being so cold. A couple of guys caught their limit but nothing big Hope this helps
  25. Socks 8-)
