Good Numbers Day With A Big One To Top It Off!

Well my buddy Jon and I did pretty good at La Cygne today. Lots of fish I'd guess close to 40 maybe even more. Most of them were smaller, a couple that were over 16 maybe close to 18". Shakyheads, spinnerbaits, traps, jerkbaits, and cranks all caught their share of fish. The rock bank at the mouth of the river was by far our best area with the last point on the west side almost straight across from the outlet being our best spot,we fished it for probably an hour and caught fish for most of that time. We went down lake around noon but found the water was pretty chilly still so we ran over to hit the boat ramp area. Nothing going on, the wind was blowing pretty hard, and I got my Spro Fat John hung on the rocks. I was cruising up to get it loose and did the bowstring pop with no luck. Next time I went to do it it seemed like my line was moving towards the boat? Hard to tell with boat bucking so hard but then the line did start moving off! I figured a carp or catfish swam into my line until a big, bugeyed gal wallowed on top and shook her head. She pulled and pulled and pulled for the longest time and every time she came up I could see she only had 1 hook in the very tip of her bottom lip. Thankfully she stayed stuck and Jon got her in the net. 7.76lbs, 22" long and 17" around.

Nice...sounds like an awesome trip!

Awesome! Sounds like you had a blast.

Nice fish and good catch!!! I swear I come close to having a heart attack anytime I have a nice fish on that is barely hooked or jumping, it kills me!

I had a scale like that but It was ridiculously inaccurate and died after after a few months of use lol; looks like yours in in much better condition and is OBVIOUSLY much more accurate. NICE FISH!!! Congratulations!

No doubt about it, I was snagged at first. This lake is one of 2 or 3 lakes in the state that produces DD bass with any kind of regularity, so when I swing on something I keep pulling for at least a couple seconds to make sure even if I'm sure it's a snag. So when my bait stopped I swung on it and it didn't move for a couple seconds and hadn't moved by the first time I tried to pop it loose. My guess is that when I dropped the rod tip from the first pop it probably floated off the rock and she had been right there watching it wiggle and bang against the rock and then ate it as soon as it floated loose and next time I tried to pop the line it set the hook on her. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good  :respect-059:
