Can't keep these dang things out of my boat. I don't leave any food in the boat and spraying with Ortho doesn't seem to help or last long enough. The boat sits covered in the driveway.

 

Thought about bombing it but I've never used a bomb before so I'm a little unsure about it. I also wouldn't know quite where to put it...maybe in the cockpit with all of the compartment lids open and the cover on??? Then I still have to figure out how to keep them from coming back.

 

It's not a huge problem at this point but with them eating away at rubber buttons and leaving their poop behind I'm not waiting around to see how bad it can get.

Look on the bright side, you can use them as bait

I had a infestation of crickets from parking overnight at work. Man, i bet there was over 100!! Tossed all I could in the lake.

Mist definately remove everything. Electronics, gear, tools, etc

You could also try no pest strips.  Less drastic than flea bombs.

What kind of roaches are we talking about? Fluke mentioned southern roaches which are either the American or the Florida woods cockroach, very different from most ppl think of, when they think about roaches. Most ppl in SC call them palmetto bugs, they live outside and don't infest your home, they are also huge, fly and easy to get rid of. German and oriental roaches are those little ones that infest your home, getting into your food stores carry disease and are hard to control. Where are u living James?

I live in Central FL. I have both the little ones without wings and some of the larger ones with wings...but not the big palmetto bugs. I don't mind having to bomb every once in a while but I need to find a way to at least keep them at bay so it doesn't have to be every 1-2 months.

Put out roach baits. Like Harris roach tablets. They are small white tablets, that you can lay around in different parts of your boat. When the roach's eat them, bye...bye... roach.

I'm guessing you have a resident population of American roaches, the little ones without wings are the juveniles. From my experience the habitat niches of German and oriental aren't compatable with the dampness of a boat, especially here in the South. Having said that I've never had them bother the rubber boots on the switches. I'm betting that they are living in the bilge area anywhere it stays damp. I would get an insecticide that kills adults, juveniles, and eggs. Spray the boat especially the bilge, then put out a couple of roach baits. You may have to spray a couple of times depending on how bad they are. Once the reproduction cycle is broken, the bait traps should keep ya relatively roach free. I might even be tempted to flood the bilge first, drain it let out dry out then spray. Being in the South you already know there isn't anything as completely roach free.

Never had a roach problem in the boat. Had snakes getting in it for a time. I'd rather have roaches.

All I can suggest is that you check with a professional pest control company for their input.

I would say remove the gear.......but I pamper my stuff a little maybe......always bring the gear inside the house....I have one of the bedrooms set up with rod holders and a cabinet for tackle boxes. Don't leave anything on the boat between trips.

Just put the raid baits in the compartments.  My boat is covered and under a shed and I still get them from time to time.  They live in the oak trees around here.

Have you thought about using those roach traps with bait and glue in a paper container? Less dramatic and can be used for longer term maintenance purpose too.

Roach Motels in rod boxes and other compartments. I spray in the in the bottom hull area through the floor drains and bilge area.  Not to much of a problem, boat is in garage.

That's because a spammer bumped this thread up.  I hid the post.  We try real hard to nail them, but took a couple hours to get this one.  The funny part, it was spam from an exterminator service!

I was mistaken about what kind of roaches were in your boat...

I don't get it...we ask that people search old posts for answers...but we also get tense when someone dredges up an old post?

 

I get that this was a spammer...but in general...what's the problem with bringing back an old post...when we specifically ask that people check for them before starting a new one?

 

I've seen people get cranky for exactly the opposite reason, "Didja do a search for XYZ?  There's dozens of posts about that!"
