Today I caught my first 8" hudd fish... after over 100 hours fishing it over the years. I've caught fish on bigger baits but for some reason I could never get them on the traditional slow bottom crawl

Had a fun day chasing spots around after our first cold weather finally came through.

This poor guy looked like he drowned. Couldn't find an exit hole, no visible trauma, and no roads anywhere near the part of the lake we found him.

This one is from PA

When you go to a river looking for smallmouth and they won’t eat...

Turns out, trout eat dinger worms too! It’s actually not the first trout I’ve caught this year on a dinger. But it is the biggest, and my PB rainbow! 17.5” My only catch of the day.

Those teeth were scary sharp!

Caught a couple of these guys while targeting slab crappies in open water from the yak. 2.8” Keitech FAT Impacts in Electric Blue and Chartreuse on a 1/4 Oz Roadrunner

Had one heck of a weekend!

Started Friday going back to the same river as last weekend chasing smallmouth, but this time took some trout gear. Well the smalls were uncooperative, and so were the trout to some extent. I think they’ve seen every lure out there, so I did some digging around in my little tackle box and came up with a creation that I was hoping would get the smallies to eat. They still wouldn’t! Turned out the trout loved it! Caught a half dozen stock size rainbow and brook trout on it, and then I found some big girls!

18” brook trout. New PB! Caught another small rainbow and then not even 30 minutes later...

19” Brook trout! New PB round 2!

I was stoked on the first one and was almost too excited to fish anymore after the second! Beautiful mountain scenery, small stream and awesome views with super clear blue water, capped off with some big trout that I was not expecting or even trying to target.

Saturday we were out again chasing big bass on Briery. Cloudy day, 46° water, storm front coming in, we were expecting good fishing... Did not turn out that way.

Spent the first few hours of the day just looking for a bite. Finally found a fish in the 10-15 foot depth range. Nice 2.5 lber.

Spent another hour almost in that area and couldn’t find another bite, so moved on and kept trying some key areas, but kept coming up short. Finally around 3:00 I managed to hook into another 2.5lber with a crankbait. And about 5 casts later got my big of the day on the same crankbait. 21”, 5lbs on the nose. Just above the freezing mark and cloudy all day, made the struggle bus that much worse. But a solid fish capped off the day again!

Been waiting for almost two weeks to get back out. Finally got rid of the ice today and got out briefly after some rain just before sundown. Only had about 45 min. but managed a couple on a 3" wacky Senko. Both were about this size. Not real big but a lot of fun in mid Dec. in Indiana. I'm planning to get out Sun. and have time to really focus.

Drove by half a dozen today on the way home and every one is still 95% locked up :( Will be a few more days from the looks of it. Boat is coming out Sun, Mon and Tues though on larger open waters chasing crappie. It will be all bass in ponds after that until we freeze back up the following week.

I'm pretty much open on the southeast side.  The rain tonight and tomorrow will finish off everything else I would think. I'm doing a tropical dance(?) that we'll stay open. Thirty years ago I would have been hopping mad that the ice left. Funny what age does to you.

Awesome getting out on a near empty lake today. Bite wasn't on by any means, but we still had a great time with hit/miss action.

I was expecting something a bit bigger with the big SB!

A good friend took me out for my first time winter fishing deep structure. First time drop shotting also. Worked hard for 7 fish in about the same amount of hours. Had a great time, learned a lot, and great company. 4B05BE01-BB6A-4995-B5A8-7159CA25D5B3.thumb.jpeg.9696521d935721cfdb3cdcd7bc8405ce.jpeg

Took advantage of some real nice weather today and caught several on a small marabou jig including this 3 lbr. Foul hooked a bigger one on a blade bait but didn't take pic because he (she) doesn't count. As slow as I was fishing I have to believe the fish took a swipe at it and got hooked in the side. I keep hoping I can keep this up all winter.  Years past this would never happen in Indiana

Deer season is wrapped up. Time to get serious about bass fishing.

Had a decent day. Caught a few whites, a few small bass, and these three.

Shakyhead was the ticket

Not trophies, but any bass in December is a good catch to me.

Went out at dusk last night with my friend Mike to toss some Ultra Vibe Speed Worms from the bank. Caught a few feisty bass, and this was the biggest.

It's one of my favorites and it gets a lot less pressure these days than it did when there was an active launch there years ago. ?

Recently got permission to fish a small pond in an expensive subdivision less than 2 minutes from my house.  Today I went to the sweet spot on the west side where I caught a fish last weekend.  I threw a Ned Rig with 1/2 of a coppertreuse Zinker Z on it.  These three fish represent the first three casts I made.  I only made those three casts and then I went home.  I didn't want to burn it out.  I'm bringing my teenage son back tomorrow so he can have a good fishing experience.

Used to do "amazing" especially in spring on a Dry Creek tube called Old Ugly out there.
