Super User everythingthatswims Posted July 26, 2015 Super User Share Posted July 26, 2015 This one from a few days ago qualifies as fun By Catch or Nuisance, depending on your perspective. Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 26, 2015 Global Moderator Share Posted July 26, 2015 Got my second largest of the year so far on a buzzbait this past Thursday right after a torrential downpour that I got to thoroughly enjoy since my rain gear was in the truck.
vect0r
Caught this 20.5" guy back on the 4th on Monroe Lake in Indiana dragging a Zoom Ol' Monster on a 1/2 oz swinging jig head. Only fish I caught all weekend.

I mark the spots and troll over them and throw a down a dropshot. This is what I got. There were four of these things on this pile. I have never caught these channels out on the main lake before, or have them this color. Nice Cat ~ And how long did it take on that first one before all that wishful thinking of "I hope this is a Bass" went out the window ? no39
Spawning male, they get really dark and really aggressive this time of the year when they're spawning. That makes sense. I seen a group of them in a corner of the harbor but that was in 3 feet of water. Do they also spawn in deep water too? Nice Cat ~ And how long did it take on that first one before all thank wishful thinking of "I hope this is a Bass" went out the window ? A-Jay Thanks. Usually when I hook smallmouth they always make a run for the surface. This guy wanted to stay planted on the bottom, but I was hoping that maybe 8lb smallies fight differently.

This was just after the rain. There wasn't much going on during that downpour. I love fishing in rain, but when it gets that heavy it seems like they shut down until it stops. I had a 10 minute window directly after the rain that it was on fire. On 7/26/2015 at 7:16 PM, no39 said: That makes sense. I'm not 100% sure since most of our lakes aren't 40' deep anywhere in them, but I've caught them in what is considered deeper water here with full spawning colors on.
cdsmith14
Caught this one on a rage craw. Unfortunately he swallowed hook completely so had to cut the line. Hate when that happens but just a part of fishing...

Hate when that happens but just a part of fishing... http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/12981-how-do-i-remove-a-hook-a-bass-has-swallowed/page-2 Get a thin pair of forceps or needlenose pliers and leaving hooks in a fish will be a thing of the past if you follow the diagram in the above post. It's often better for them to die the relatively fast death from blood loss than to slowly starve if the hook has their throat pinned shut anyways.
*Hank
Spent the day catching bass on jigs! 9 keepers landed and a couple that came off.
Super User MIbassyaker Posted July 28, 2015 Super User Share Posted July 28, 2015 I wish I had some big bass to show off like everybody else. But I don't, so I'll show off the best of my recent little bass instead. At a new lake one morning around 8:30, two old guys sitting on a porch see me paddle up to some pads and start taking about me, kind of loudly: "Look at that! He's fishing out of a kayak! it's got rod holders and everything! If he gets a big one it will drag him all over the lake, haha!" Kayak Fishing: Still kind of exotic, it seems! First cast to the pads, right in front of them, with a weightless t-rigged senko...2lbs even. I should have gotten the old guys in the picture. And I believe these may be my first two buzzbait fish ever, on a Cavitron yesterday morning: Under 2lb but both keepers. A third one that seemed bigger came unbuttoned kayakside, unfortunately. And there were a few more strikes I couldn't hook up with. I have had buzzbaits for years and used them off and on, but i don't remember ever getting one to produce before yesterday morning.

Haha it's funny, I usually either catch a lot of small fish for a while and no bigguns, or catch one big one and then I can't get a bite for the rest of the week. It's worth it to me for a big bass, but it seems like I can't catch one right now after I caught a nice one last week. And get ready to get hooked on buzzbaits! Love those suckers.

Hey, anything over keeper size up here is a quality fish, as far as I'm concerned! And I don't actually mind a day of dinks, either. But numbers and sizes have both been lower than usual for me this summer.

Super User everythingthatswims Posted July 31, 2015 Super User Share Posted July 31, 2015 Couple three pounders from my latest outing. River rose about 3' over night but since it's a tailwater, the reservoir kept the muddy water from making its way into the river. Made for a killer spinnerbait bite, tons of fun!
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 1, 2015 Global Moderator Share Posted August 1, 2015 Did a little night fishing Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Minus the nearly 3 dozen channel cats I caught on my bladed jigs and spinnerbaits, I caught 6 bass. 5 of them were less than a pound, one of them was my biggest of the year so far I hate night fishing during a full moon, but the plus side to the normally slow fishing is that I usually get a shot at a big one during a full moon. Slammed a black and blue War Eagle right as it was coming over a log and gave me all she had at 2:30 in the morning, 5lb 9oz. Right when I caught her. Our morning photo shoot at the ramp before telling her goodbye.

Super User gardnerjigman Posted August 3, 2015 Super User Share Posted August 3, 2015 Got some decent fish from a local city lake just walking the bank (as my wife drove beside me in the car giving me the stink eye... She was pouting because one broke her off in the water willows, so obviously that meant "we" were done. ) Snapped a picture of two of them. Pretty average for this lake. They were destroying a frog in the pockets of water in the water willows. Poor guys were cross eyed after the 7' Heavy rod and 65# braid slammed them home...
Super User everythingthatswims Posted August 3, 2015 Super User Share Posted August 3, 2015 C&R proven once again. This is the fish from my profile photo that I caught 2 years ago, I'm shocked she is still alive, this is a REALLY old bass, her head is massive and she's very skinny, I'm thinking this fish might get one more spawn in but that's it. My brothers and I have caught her a few times over the years, (one of her pec fins has always been chopped in half so she's very recognizable) this fish normally doesn't look that rough, especially the one time we caught her pre-spawn. Drop shotting a 4.5" yum sharpshooter. 6lb fluorocarbon leader. 24" only 5.35lbs. Hasn't grown an inch from the time I got her 2 years ago.

guitarglynn1
Not sure what that mark on the fish is? maybe a bird got it or something. Didn't seem to affect the fight in the fish. It took us straight into all kinds of heavy weeds. I saw surface activity and cast right into it and this fish hit the super fluke like a run away freight train Caught this at my fav pond This was a donkey
