I see another 30 bass day coming.

Maybe. I shifted to fishing my pond tomorrow morning because I left my tacklebox there. I'll fish the bog a day or two later.

Today I caught my first 8" hudd fish... after over 100 hours fishing it over the years. I've caught fish on bigger baits but for some reason I could never get them on the traditional slow bottom crawl

Every time I go out recently it's a mid-sized bass and a rock bass.

I'm not complaining. Especially because I found a free telescoping rod discarded in the weeds. Always wanted one of these, because I'm a sucker for a gimmick. Was never gonna shell out for one, because it's a gimmick.

I’m glad the fish are giving you some practice so you can catch your new PB in a month!  😎

I fished my pond this morning. It was foggy when I launched and I got off to a great start, catching two bass with my first two casts, both on a popper. Here's the first one:

Sadly, those were my only two surface bass and the whole morning went like that. I'd think I found a way to catch bass consistently after catching a quick one and then that place and method would go cold. However, I did manage to catch 15, giving me 941 for 2025 and some were well-shaped:

They all measured between 16.5" and 17" and all were caught on an underspin, wacky worm with a jig, and the popper. Since I couldn't put together a pattern, I tried Pondweed patches, Lilypads, three drop-offs, trolling, the edge of wetlands, a laydown, a rocky flat, a river, etc.

This was my last bass:

Yes- Twice.

She was over 5 on my thumb.

And less than that on my scale.

Have never released a Snakehead, they go into the frying pan......and they are invasive.

Did a quick, on a whim fish this evening and got a few. Man is it getting weedy, shore fishing is really challenging, but still doable going heavier. It was a pretty slow pick, but I did get three nice fish from 16.5-18”, and some overzealous 10-13” dinkers. A 7” senko and 10” worm both caught fish as big baits were best today. El piko collected per usual, but only once atleast

I got a solid, still ragged ol’ bass on the big worm right in tight to the bank in about 1’ of water. I noticed a few weeks ago some good fish were pulling up and ambushing from right up by shore, in a shoe box sized pocket of weeds/slop collected by the current. People walk right by these fish all day. So I’ve been periodically running baits along certain spots and this fish waked right after a large senko, but pulled up and went into the slop. I waited a few minutes and dropped a weightless 10” worm above the lie and ever so slowly scooted and pulled it along until it got close and that bass grabbed it without hesitation and I corked her probably 5’ away from me. Ya take what ya make and that’s it man lol I had to take a couple mug shots of small bass with big attitudes!

I had a blast this morning. I fished from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. I'd rigged four lures: a wakebait, two underspins, two wacky/jig rigs, and a T-Rigged orange craw. All caught at least one bass, but the orange craw caught the most. I found them in grass, pondweed, lily pads, and on the edge of the wetlands. Pondweed was not the best producer. Grass was. I caught lots of 17 to 18-inch bass. And I chatted with another angler in a canoe who finished with three bass. I caught eighteen.

The highlight of the morning was hooking a strong bass near the shoreline that ran for the bushes on the shoreline. I thought I'd braked her, but she ended up tangled in a submerged tree. I saw her a couple times before she disappeared. I assume she freed herself, but left my lure in the tree. So, I started clearing away the underwater branches, which was pretty easy to do because the tree was rotten. Finally, I saw the trunk and was able to lift it just enough to see my orange lure hooked on the bottom of it. I grabbed my lure, pulled, and freed it...and...there was a bass attached. This bass!

.

See the scratch on its side? I'm guessing the tree scratched it.

Anyway, I caught lots of fine fish, many in the 16.5" to 18" range. Here they are:

My last bass was the biggest:

And my first bass was the skinniest:

I'm at 959 bass for 2025.

What happened to your month of not fishing?  Your cataract surgery seemed to heal nicely, happy for you.

My right eye is healing well, so the eye doc gave me permission to fish again. The fishing will end again this coming Wednesday with the left eye being done.

Getting smaller as the sun comes up, time to go

Got this girl after work. Another quick trip 30 mins taking it easy on the elbow. Was casting and working a jig I made last night. Just dragging and hopping the bottom. Heavy rain this morning.  Ponds levels raised and water was dark not muddy though. Didn’t think a brown jig and green pumpkin trailer would be amazing. Had a bite. Got off. Caught one dink. Then I hooked this girl. Knew it was a good fish instantly. Can’t believe I got two fish like this. In the same week. She’s smaller than my last but an amazing catch for here. I noticed. These two girls mouths were perfect. The ponds get heavy heavy pressure. Most of the fish I get have destroyed mouths by this late in summer. I’m so happy. And to catch them on jigs I’m tying myself puts me over the moon excited.

@Joedodge: I'm sending you twenty bucks. Please spend it on lottery tickets for me.

I see you changed your PB numbers to 5-6 lbs. You're humble. I think you caught a six-pounder and deserve 6-7 lbs.

Haha it would a waste of your hard earned money!! I appreciate it a lot. I’ve always tried to be. I’m super thankful. People fish these ponds every day. And anyone ya talk to will tell ya. You can catch a lot but they age all small. Or there’s none in that one. I’m just happy to know they are there now.
