A couple of more modern rock guys are Tom Morello and Jack White. Both have their own very different style but can really crank it.

"All Time" is a tough qualifier.

 

Perhaps not of "all time", but one of the best is Joe Satriani.  I'm surprised nobody has mentioned him yet.

Definitely one of the best, IMO.

I would love to see documentation on that statement.  There are lots of anecdotal statements about Hendricks saying that about a few guitar players.  Rory Gallagher is one that comes to mind.  One thing for sure,  Hendricks did NOT consider himself the best.  Once when asked if he ever practiced,  he said "no,  that is why I make so many mistakes."    When on the Dick Cavett Show,  Dick made reference to him being the best guitar player in the world,  Hendrix disagreed.  Dick then said he was the best guitar player in the studio.  Hendrix remarked, "how about I am the best guitar player sitting in this chair."

It was a comment to Walt Parazaider, one of Chicago's band memebers during a live gig. W.P. has said it over and over again but unfortunately it was never recorded or written down to be "on the record" as I had said. Sorry to tick of another Hendrix is god person. BTW...not too sure if it helps my case but Hendrix also said that Billy Gibbons was one of the best.

It was even mentioned from the band in "Behind the Music" on VH1. For those who don't know him, check out some of the early Chicago stuff. His guitar is mostly in the background but he comes with some blistering solos.

Quite a leap calling me a "Hendrix is god person",  isn't it?

If you read my other post in this thread,  you'd get a better idea of my opinion. (all posts in this thread are but opinions)

 

In my "opinion"  very few can hold the proverbial candle to Danny Gatton.  His guitar peers called him "The Humbler" for a reason.  One of Joe B's mentors.

 

 

Search other performances to appreciate his range and scope.  Johnny B Goode...just when you thought that couldn't be fresh.

 

And again...

 

I almost feel bad forgetting to mention this one (especially since he is one of my all time favorites): Duane Allman.

Stevie Ray Vaughn gets my vote.  The guy could make stuff up on the spot and blow people away.  If you ever got a chance to see one of his sound checks, it was like going to another full concert.

Fishtank, that guy is ridiculous on the acoustic guitar...definitely not my style of music though.
