Squarebill Crankbait , followed closely by a 5/16 ounce War Eagle Mike McClelland Finesse Spinnerbait. I find that if I had to have one bait in all conditions it would probably be the War Eagle. It's setup lends itself to versatility.

This year on my river it's been 4" t-rigged YUM Dinger and 3" or 4" curly-tail grub on 1/8 ounce ball head.

I have to say a jig and a spinnerbait account for more bass for me than any other two. This year has been no exception.

+1 on the Rebel Craws, especially in rivers. I even caught a striper on one.

I love those Rebel cranks...the craw, frog, etc.  Some of the few cranks I have confidence in.  I don't really hear much about them these days, but they're great. 

I rarely start a morning of Smallmouth fishing on the river without tossing a Rebel crank or topwater (CrickPopper or Hopper)....kind of a "secret" weapon for me I suppose.

If you are defining success as numbers of fish the most successful baits I have used would be a weightless plastic (either a Senko, Fluke, or Caffeine Shad) or a texas rigged soft plastic like a 7 inch ribbontail worm or craw/creature. Also keep in mind I have been fishing these for many more years than some others baits and presentations.

 

Recently a drop shot has been killing it for me.

 

If success is measured off of bigger fish it would probably be a jig or topwater frog.

The rebel BIGCLAW CRAWFISH crank caught my PB 10lber.

Pretty much all I ever throw is a 3/8oz swimjig with a paddle tail trailer. If I'm not using that, its in the evening or morning and I'm using a buzzbait.
