Csadams17 Posted February 4, 2019 Posted February 4, 2019 Thank you Bassman!! There are a few places down there I’d like to try too. Would love to do some smallmouth fishing on the rivers down there but don’t know where/when etc.. Quote
The Bassman Posted February 5, 2019 Posted February 5, 2019 Google Eel river in the Logansport area. Known for excellent smallmouth fishing. Also the upper reaches of the White east of Muncie can be good. Quote
Csadams17 Posted February 5, 2019 Posted February 5, 2019 Appreciate that! I have a tracker 175 aluminum bass boat.... can I use that there or is that more like John boat type stuff? Quote
The Bassman Posted February 5, 2019 Posted February 5, 2019 Shallow draft stuff like jon boats, kayaks, canoes. During low water some wading. I don't have experience there but these places are within reasonable driving distance for you. Quote
Csadams17 Posted February 5, 2019 Posted February 5, 2019 Thank you again appreciate the information Quote
The Bassman Posted February 5, 2019 Posted February 5, 2019 You're welcome. Keep us up to date how it goes in your area this spring. Research the lakes up there. Lots of possibilities that we don't have here like pike and musky. You're a hoosier now. None of us really knows what that means other than we live in Indiana. Quote
CroakHunter Posted February 6, 2019 Posted February 6, 2019 63° and thunderstorming down here in the southern part of the state. Which is keeping ice off the lakes and ponds. Our first trip is planned for the 3rd week of February. Turtle creek in Merom Quote
The Bassman Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 Starting to catch a few again. Got six tuesday and seven this afternoon. A lot of ponds still have ice but I was getting them today right off the edge. Nothing big, 12-15". I've been using a ned rigged Z-Man finesse worm. Still hoping for an early spring. 1 Quote
The Bassman Posted February 18, 2019 Posted February 18, 2019 In spite of temps right at freezing I managed a few yesterday and today. Gotta say though that this winter stuff is getting a little old. I'm getting anxious for warmer weather and light jackets. I do think we're past much threat of icing up again except for maybe skim ice. That's something to be happy about. 1 Quote
Preytorien Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 Been out a few times the past couple of weeks with the slightly warmer temps and sun. Still not doing any good in my waters, mainly neighborhood ponds. I've switched back and forth between NedRigs and loud baits (muddy water) and still nothing takes. Ready for some warmer water and some pre-spawn activity. Any ideas to get things moving for my current water conditions? Quote
CroakHunter Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 Moms boyfriend and I were supposed to hit turtle creek Sunday, but my sick kids said other wise. He went Saturday tobsome old strip pits in pike county amd caught some plus this big one Believe that is a 6th sense movement 80x Quote
BigBassLoveSenkos Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMNN!!!!!!!!! Great looking fish! Just got one of those 6th sense lipless in a shad pattern. those red ones are money in the spring Quote
Cole Richards Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 Anybody fish Maxinkuckee early in the season , want to get after some small mouth and some bonus Walleye . Heard that place is loaded with them . Anybody confirm or deny that . Quote

Looks like we're transitioning from winter tactics to spring. I'm starting to get them on chatterbaits and paddletail swimmers. Ned always works but I'm kind of ready for different methods after doing the finesse thing all winter. Have caught over 200 bass since early Dec. up to 5 lb. (most under 2). Best of luck. Quote
Manly Studson Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 The bite is strong in southern IN. I caught smallmouth, spotted, and largemouth in one day on SK bitsy flips last weekend. A warm winter and early spring had the bass biting in late March. Glad the season is here! Quote
CroakHunter Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 I'm in southern Indiana as well. Good to have you Quote
Manly Studson Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 Last weekend was a downer. I fished Hardy Lake, and I could see countless numbers of bass in shallow water, but they had lockjaw. Is the spawn in full swing? Quote
CroakHunter Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 It should be close, but not quite yet. Unsure of when the full moon was or is, but it seems to be around that time in April when they start thinking about spawning Quote
Josh Smith Posted April 14, 2019 Posted April 14, 2019 Hi Folks, Any luck in northern Indiana yet? I've got nothing to report. Regards, Josh Quote
Csadams17 Posted April 14, 2019 Posted April 14, 2019 Haven’t been out yet but spent yesterday getting the boat and tackle ready!! Can’t wait!! thinking about clear lake as my first stop, see if we can get on some smallies!! Quote
nighthawk25 Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 I was out Saturday on a small lake in northern Indiana. It was kinda tough but managed a few smaller ones. Bladebaits and Ned rigs mostly. Water temp was 51-52. Quote
Csadams17 Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 51-52 huh? That’s actually warmer than I thought it would be. Quote
CroakHunter Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 Id say our water down here is pushing 58-60. Havent been out on the boat yet to confirm. Went Friday for 3 hrs on the bank and managed a few bites. Was dead set on throwing the jig in a pond I never have good luck with a jig. But my new tatula rod and tatula sv performed amazing and it will be a fish catching machine. Poehlein Big Bass Tourney is May 5th, hoping to win and put one on the scale over 7lbs 2 oz Quote

I tried a jig for a while with no success, then I tried the WP for the first time. I was surprised at how warm the water was. Quote
The Bassman Posted April 19, 2019 Posted April 19, 2019 I've enjoyed the best of the pre spawn bite this past week. Many bass up to 4 lb. My late winter posts wishing for moving bait action have definitely come into play. Nothing like a 4 lb.'r crushing a bait at rod's length. Sort of my poor man's "musky strike". Nesting's certainly close. It'll give me a reason to stop playing hookey from work and get some jobs done. Quote
