Yes, a few years ago I was throwing a pop r and had a world class backlash.  My pop r was sitting in the middle of the pond when all of a sudden a 2lber explodes under it and engulfs it.  It took me a few minutes the clear the backlash while the fish was going nuts.

Yes...a couple of times.  The last time it happened, the reel was loss and the bass was running down the bank.  Tried to set the hook with my arm, but it didn't work.  It's panic in the disco when that happens.

I won a big fish tourney in 04 as a back seater this way. It was summer and the weeds were really bad near shore and super thick. This was back before I knew what punching was. 

There was a hole about the size of a dinner plate about fifteen yards away from me and I was throwing a 1/8oz bullet with a 6" Gulp worm. I knew I was going to blow my reel up to make the cast but I made it anyway. 

The worm lands in the dead middle of the hole, reel blows up, and I start stripping it off like a mad man. It took me at least twenty seconds to get it out and my line reeled back up. I lift up on the rod and it just feels stuck so I give it a jerk to set it free and it starts pulling back. 6.4lbs and check. Pretty sweet deal. 

It's happened to me a few times, always while throwing a t-rig.

Its happened to me and my girlfriend before. Makes a birds nest not quite as bad. 

I don't recommend doing it, but if I ever backlash and get a hit, I just land the fish and then peel off line by hand and deal with the backlash after I land it. 

No, i never backlash, lol..

Yes a few times, I would stop picking the birds nest, set the hook and bring them in.  

Happens to me about once a year.  I don't back lash much anymore. Usually end up gut hooking fish when it happens 

A pro once told me, the best way to fish a weightless senko is on baitcast gear. When (or if) you get a backlash, by the time you're don't picking it out you'll probably have a fish. Taught me to slow down how I fish a senko. Can't tell you how many fish I have caught picking out a backlash over the years. Just had one a month ago that was 6.42 pounds off a dock while getting a small backlash out. 

Once I was throwing a chatterbait and I got backlash. So I pick it out and when I started reeling I couldn't feel the blade moving so I set the hook and reeled in a 3 pounder

Last summer I was throwing a weighted white Kietech, had a horrendous backlash. While I was picking it out, a 28" pike decided it'd be a good idea to eat it. That was a "fun" experience lol

Yep,  a couple times. I reeled em in and picked backlash after. 

Lots of times. Happened just this last Friday in fact. 

Not a backlash but I had a pretty good wind knot in my spinning reel after a cast. After I sat down to pick out the wind knot and reeled in the slack I had a fish on my drop shotted senko.

Not with a baitcaster, I gave up on those several years ago... I'm just not coordinated enough to use them, but I've hooked a few fish while working out a line problem. Normally it happens when using my ultra light going after panfish, 4 pound mono hurts when your trying to pull in a feisty bluegill!

Oh yeah. Multiple times after trying to whip long casts into the wind with jigs. Picked out the birds nest only to find that a fish had taken the jig on the fall or from the bottom.

I was adjusting the reel brakes and making test casts before starting my morning. Had a birdnest on the second test cast using a DIY beetlespin. I was just starting to untangle it when i noticed the line was moving to the right, did not finished the birdnest and i just reeled in the fish.  Got a 7lbs snakehead.

 

A lot of times it happens when I'm fishing a jig or t-rig.  I get the birdnest out and find that my bait has moved.  When that happens I start dead sticking.

It happened to me last summer with a Chug'n Spook, Jr. I birdnested and was picking at it as the fish hit. I was getting to the bottom of the knots so i just kept picking. Poor fish hit the bait so well, it was still hooked with both hooks when i finally caught up to it.

This winter I caught one on a suspending jerkbait after not paying attention to it for maybe 10 seconds. I just started reeling and the fish was on. But my buddy moves the boat too fast for me to use that approach very often.

I don't know what the reason is, but I'm finding very often lately that fish are just picking up the bait and either holding it so I feel no tap, only resistance until they slowly move away or they're swimming towards me and I feel weightlessness on my line. I use a really good rod for my T-rigging so I can't really explain why this is happening.

I was out with a popular St Clair guide when he had this happen on back to back casts fishing a pearl colored tube. It opened up my eyes about fishing slow. However, I still rip a jerkbait as fast as I can.
