I have a hard time settling on knots for each application and sometimes I repurpose a knot that works well in other places.  Long story short I was having an issue with fluorocarbon break offs and I used a snell on a spinner bait and it worked great.

What knot was causing break off's for you?  Clinch knot does the trick for me on flouro unless I"m drop shotting and it's the polymer.

I've experimented with different knots but settled on the SDJ for fluorocarbon and Palomar for most everything else. That said, use what works for you. If you're good at tying a snell knot and it's working satisfactory for you, roll with it. 

My hat is off to you for learning different knots.  I have read of several that I'd like to try, but I seem to stick with the same knot all the time.  The Uni holds well for me on any type of line I use.  The Snell and San Diego Jam are two (of several) I'd like to try.

Simple solution:

 

Palomar Knot for single hooks

 

Pitzen (16/ 20 or Duncan) for treble hooks

 

Uni for flouro or mono

Polamar for braid

Double uni to join them

Fluorocarbon line has generated more knots than all other line combined since man started fishing. Do you think maybe there is a knot strength issue with FC line!

Everyone used the improved clinch knot for decades, then the Palomar knot became more popular, Trilene came out with thier version of the improved clinch knot, then FC line hit the market spawning dozens of new knots. If you can tie a clinch knot then the San Diego jam knot should be easy. The key to FC knots is take your time clinching the knot tight and wet the knot before clinching it tight to prevent over heating the line and overlapping line wraps.

Practice, practice, practice until you can tie the knot in dark, whatever knot you can tie correctly.

PS, with the SD jam knot it helps to add a weight to the hook or very light weight lures, I use a clothes pin.

I have never had a knot problem with FC or mono. I tie one knot for all. I call it the Jimmy Houston knot. I don't know the real name but it is the one you end up with a loop and one end to cut off. Saw Jimmy tie this one years and years ago and have used it ever since.

For flouro i use the "shaw grigsby knot". Its the one on youtube he shows how to tie. For braid and mono its a trilene knot for me. For leaders its a modified albright but am learning the fg knot currently.

The only knot that never failed me is the uni.

i often use the improved uni.

 

I like knots that are easy to tie and ones that dont use up a lot of line.  I tie the palomar a lot but it takes a lot of line when putting on large baits.  I snell for punching a lot so i am very good at it and it is very kind to my leaders taking only a few inches a time.  I also dont ever seem to burn the line with the snell.
