I guess Spinnerbaits do work!

Featured Replies

So Ive been trying spinnerbaits for a while now and I just haven't had too much luck with them...until recently. After a almost two month skunk I've started catching fish again!! and I started catching them with the the least expected bait, the spinnerbait. I attached a picture of the pretty girl I hooked up with yesterday! I use a paddle tail on mine, but recently i've been seeing a lot of people dont even use trailers on them, what do you guys do?? does it really matter??

Spinnerbaits are my biggest confidence bait, I fish them with or without a trailer. If I want a little larger profile I will use a fluke or paddle tail bait, but most of the time it's no trailer for me.

Nice fish... 95% of time I'm  fishing it without trailer..

I use trailers to add   weight otherwise I dont use them .

I almost never use a trailer.

I've never caught anything interesting with spinnerbaits, my best spinnerbait bass is a solid niner, but I still enjoy spinnerbaiting.

Nice Fish! From the look of the pictures I would have been throwing a spinnerbait too! I usually don't use a trailer on mine.

I've never been a big trailer guy, then this fall there was a hot big fish bite, for spinnerbaits with big trailers on them, 4.5-6 inch paddletails. I'll be doing it more often in the future.

Sometimes I do...sometimes I don't!

Zoom Fat Albert!

Nice chunk! ;)

Never gave a trailer a good chance. I catch them without the trailer so adding the trailer seems like a big profile but I know realistically it's not. One day I'll give it a chance but for now I think I'll just throw the spinnerbaits without trailers.

A 9lb'er is sure "interesting" in my neck of the woods.

Love tossing spinnerbaits. Haven't done much with trailers in the past, but plan on giving it a try this year.

I've never caught one over 9 in KS. It's less than 3 pounds off our state record. For that matter, I've won several tournaments with 5 bass limits that didn't TOTAL 9 pounds

I fish them both with (most of the time) and without trailers (sometimes). Usually it's a paddle tail, sometimes a grub or craw.

I always have a spinnerbait tied on, and I doubt that a fishing day has gone by in the past who knows how long where I haven't at least thrown it a couple of times in a day.   It is my #1 choice working water down to 3', I probably fish spinnerbaits better than any other lure.  I have developed a technique fishing cover where I sidearm/underhand it to keep the bait low to the water.  Right as the bait is going to land I lift the tip up to soften the entry and begin reeling.   The result is an almost ripple free landing with the bait already swimming.   I can't tell you how many fish I've gotten within the first crank of the reel handle.

I caught my first bass on an artificial lure using a spinnerbait, and since then it's locked in my brain as my confidence bait.  I rarely use a trailer because back when I started fishing them people didn't dress them up too much.   I should definitely use a trailer more often.

Guess most people do not have a trailer on them, interesting, i'll start giving that a shot too. Thanks for all the input guys!!

If I'm slow rolling one at dusk or night I will often use a trailer hook if I'm burning one I'll use a keitech swingin impact as a trailer. I have found that 90% of my spinner bait strikes with a trailer included is on a paddle tail as opposed to a zoom chunk or craw. I think bass see a spinnerbait blade as a couple of tiny baitfish and the paddle tail swimbait as a trailer gives it more realism.

Making this near perfect cast very rarely happens for me, yet I did experience exactly what you have described just last fall. It was awesome that first crank with spinnerbait it was fish on.

By golly, NOW you're hooked!

Not my favorite lure either, but I've gotten a couple bites on them.
