Pitching Rod Length

Featured Replies

What rod lengths do you guys prefer for pitching? Im trying to decide for my texas rig rod and jig rod if I want to go with a 7 footer or a 7'3-6" strictly for pitching in light to moderate cover.

Thanks!

I cast, flip, & pitch with the same rod a 6' 10" medium heavy extra fast

I dont think it makes a big difference honestly.

The longer rod will be able to get a little more momentum on the swing and be more accurate but nothing a little experience couldnt do with shorter rod...however with shorter rod you can skip a little easier

Me 3.  6'10" MH/XF or H/XF for pitching.

I use a 7'4 Hvy fast Bass X, length will help with longer pitches

I use a 7' 6" TFO rod for pitching...but I tend to use longer rods than most folks do, on average.

I use a 6 foot 6 medium heavy G loomis IMX MBR.  I frequently fish docks and like the shorter pole.  This is a nice jig rod paired with a curado 70.  I tried to switch to a 7 foot, but just didn't like it as well.

7'3' H/XF Lew's Custom. Also use it for frog fishing.

Same Here   (6' 10" is an ideal all-purpose rod length).

When working in close quarters, long casts usually give bass a free meal ticket.

If I need to pitch more than 10ft,  2"- 3" more in rod length isn't really gonna give me that big of an advantage.

To me it's all in the reel setup, thumb disipline, and the rods handle length.

Use what you're comfortable with

I was asked why 6' 10" & not 7', my answer is simple, "I comfortable with how it balances with my reel".

I start fishing cover as soon as I get within casting distance, as I get closer I start pitching, & then flipping when I'm up close.

I pitch with any rod I own, including spinning.  For a beginner, a bit longer rod helps, something in the neighborhood of 7'.  But really, it's more about learning the feel of it.  In that video I posted on your other thread, I was using a 6-10.

Me too . An old Berkeley Titanium series with a shorter handle than most rods  .
