I've had a home bar for quite some time and never really put much stock into it, housing the basics like vodka, tequila, a variety of whiskies and always have a bottle of blue label. This year I have been really getting into it and venturing off my norm and have been accumulating a small stock of decent scotches and other whiskies. I like hearing what other people enjoy and recommendations to maybe find "new to me" drinks I might have passed on otherwise. Right now I have macallan 18, glenmorangie signet/18 year xrare/nectar dor/companta, dalmore 18 & cigar malt, johnnie walker blue, belvenie 14 carribean cask, hibiki harmony, blantons, lagavulin 16.

I mainly drink scotch and lean toward sherry cask flavors. Not a fan of the islay models, too "peaty" for me. I do enjoy a good bourbon from time to time. So what's in your collection and what are some bottles you recommend trying. 

Since my wet bar is for me.....I stock what I like and if we are going to entertain, I will bring in more of the basics.  There are a few "display" bottles that I will not open like a suede box of Bacarrdi 12 year old rum that you could only get at the plant in Puerto Rico that has my name and a serial number engraved into the bottle and a certificate of authenticity and a bottle of Sinatra Century plus a few more that I put up and don't touch.  

Don't forget quality mixers.  I'm a fan of Fever Tree tonic.

Don't forget the lamp shades. All want to think of attire. 

You can't go wrong with a 2-3 month old bottle of Miller Lite. Often overlooked. Just a tip....it's best chilled. Enjoy! ?

My home bar is pretty modest. My drink of choice is Black Velvet over Coke Zero with a twist of lime. To me BV is a decent whiskey for the money. Always have a few bottles on hand.

 

However when I do have some extra scratch my favorite drink is Macallan 12

 

For a home bar I would recommend a bottle of Crown Royal XO Its great tasting and the bottle is a nice looking top shelf addition.

I keep a few Genny Lights in the vegetable rotter in my fridge.

Yea, it amazes me that people will spend money on the booze and then mix it with store-brand mixers.  Tonic especially, spending a buck or two more a sixpack makes a huge difference.  

 

As for liquor, if you like bourbons/ryes, check out High West out of Park City UT. They do blends and are all pretty interesting at the very least.  I keep a bottle of their Campfire (a blend of bourbon, rye, and a little scotch) around as it is pretty unique and people seem to get a kick out of it.

The occasional ice cube is the only mixer you need. Spring water, of course.

I'm a big fan of whiskey stones.  They're small 'rocks' that have been shaped into ice cubes.  Keep them in the freezer.
