Okay sir I'd like your opinion on another exercise centered on the lower body. Romanian deadlifts for the hamstrings. At a gym now, I will simply do machine leg curls, but with the winter storm that came through last night, most gyms that I go to are closed right now (and I don't want to drive).

Hope you're doing well

Romanian deadlifts are all about form.

Decent movement to stress hamstrings and lower back.

Keeping a tight torso, a flat back and a slight bend in the knees is preferred.

I've done them in the past but prefer to target those areas in a different way.

Old Guys doing that are just asking for trouble unless they stay light.

And light don't do much unless we're rehabbing something.

Hypertrophy requires a certain level of intensity & mechanical tension to do it's thing.

Loading up on a Romanian deadlifts  is not something I'm doing.

Too much can go wrong.

I prefer the partial dead lift I do.

I can load it and still move through a range of motion that gets the same job done.

My abs look remarkably similar, but strangely they wanted some winter insulation about 15 years ago and I haven't seen them since.

I'll be in that good of shape when Colonel Sanders starts selling free weights.   Way to go AJay.

  • You are a great example for us all Ajay. "The longer we wait the harder it gets.  The first step is the hardest." I agree with you 100%   My son says he has abs and you Dad have flabs.

Okay good deal. For today since I've only got free weights at the local small gym, I'll do them.

I've never felt "wrong" doing RDLs but thought I'd ask. Now, full deadlifts... that's some tricky business. I've hurt my back before doing them too heavy, thankfully it was nothing terrible and healed readily. In all likelihood I will never do a full dead again, even though with perfect form, they do not feel bad. Many times while doing them, I've had someone watch my form.

Okay I'm done rambling I'm gonna go lift soon. Thank you!

Man it’s been a while since I stepped up to a bar wearing my Chucks. I believe my T levels just spiked 150%

Total Body 3 this morning.

Three working sets felt good but I can tell I'm going to benefit from an extra day off.

So I'm taking it.

Total Body 1 this morning.

And after a couple of off days, I was chomping at the bit to make it happen.

Well, as much as a 63 year old guy can chomp anyway.

Completed 3 working sets.

Showing the last one of each performed here.

Total Body 2 this morning.

Single leg training always gets my attention.

Three working sets of six movements.

Showing one of each here.

Total Body 3 this morning.

Performed three working sets of six movements.

Showing two sets of that this time (except for calfs).

The Leaning Press (push-up) with the weighted vest is really challenging for me.

But I like it.

Total Body 1 this morning.

First movement was the Vertical Leg Press.

Showing the 4 warm up sets, two working sets and the final drop back set in this clip.

Made a 10 lb improvement over my last workout.

I'll take that any day.

The rest of this total body training will post up later.

Total Body 1 this morning.

Performed two working sets of 7 movements.

Feel like I've been on a pretty decent roll since the new year.

Hope we can keep that going.

Fun fact.

In the leg press work out alone (posted above,)

and just counting the lifts (Reps & Sets)

and not accounting for the loading & unloading of the weights

on & off the equipment.

I move 21,310 lbs.  That's 10.6 tons folks.

In 35 minutes.

I'll sleep good tonight.

Total Body 2 this morning.

Included some single leg training which I'm showing separately in this first clip.

Almost fell on my head.

Rest of the workout is in the second video.

Total Body 3 this morning.

Performed the reps and all the sets but I went pretty light.

Had to drop my wife off at the local Oncology center

for her chemotherapy right before I trained.

To be honest, my mind was somewhere else.

Total Body 1 this morning.

Worked on using good form in this one.

Showing one working set of seven movements performed.

Keeping the caloric intake right around mainainance.

Still getting used to that.

That's unfortunate.  Can't say I would be focused on a daily activity either in that situation.  Hope the chemo helps.

Total Body 2 this morning.

Working sets of 7 movements felt good.

Feeling blessed to still be able to train hard

and proud of the work that I've done all these year to make that happen.

Movement is the essence of life.

Pulled out my old Dickie's for skating that haven't fit since 2020 and they slid right on, no sucking in to button them up. Proud day, lol.

Total Body 1 this morning.

However, I changed up my routine somewhat.

Intent to prioritize some areas while giving others a bit of a break.

Copy of the routine is at the beginning of this clip.

After plenty of warm up, still doing 3 working sets of each movement.

Showing one here.

Total Body 2 this morning.

Performed 3 working sets of 5 movements.

Showing two of them in this clip.

Hadn't done this version of the pull up in a while so I stuck with body weight.

Expect to add weight in the coming weeks.

Total Body 3 this morning.

Went into this one a little flat but was able to ramp it up to feel good about it in the end.

Training solo has it's challenges for sure.

Performed 3 working sets of six movements.

Showing two here (except for calf work).

Might take an extra off day, we'll have to see.

Didn't need (or want) an extra off day.

So it's back around to Total Body 1 this morning.

Three working sets of six basic movements.

Showing one of each here.

Total Body 2 this morning.

Excessive snow removal operations yesterday

combined with some personal life stress,

didn't leave much in the tank for this one.

It happens.

Did what I could.

Your constant work on and in yourself is truly inspiring. I hope the personal life stress can be worked out.

Total Body 3 this morning.

Completed 3 working sets of six basic movements.

Showing two sets of each here. Felt better than my last workout as I had considerable more gas in the tank. Still fishing around for the right groove on the shoulder press, but we'll get there.

Taking Two Days Off

#borninfiftynine

btw - if you're one of the hundred or so folks who visit this thread

and you're currently not on some kind of regular exercise program,

but you're thinking about it, know this.

It's NEVER too late to start; regardless of age.

First one's the toughest, and then you build from there.

Don't wait another day !
