I'm pondering drilling some holes at a local pond tomorrow morning, I am limited on ice gear as far as lures/jigs go. I'm curious if you guys throw any traditional tackle through the ice? I came up with this: 

Small tube, ned rig, wacky rigged senko, lipless crankbait.    Thoughts? 

Weeellll, I don’t fish ever through a hole in the ice but you can yo-yo lipless cranks, that’s what I do when fishing cover/structure that can’t be reached by other means, just drop the crank and yo-yo it, it has worked also with those Rapala lures for ice fishing.

Hardly ever get that cold here but you would think a jigging spoon would work. I can only remember one time that a pond I fished froze completely over.

Most of the open water stuff we use for bass is just too big in the winter. They slow wayyyyy down and shy from the bigger stuff. I've found a small spoon style tipped with a waxie will catch you anything from a panfish to a bass, as well as a small jig with a minnow style plastic. If you want to target bass specifically I'd go with rapalas new ultra light rippin rap or. A slab rap. They both work great. Just work em nice and slow. Overall,  I've caught more bass on a 1/16 or 1/32 ounce jig with a northland impulse panfish plastic then any other lures combined. It's just a matter of weeding through the panfish to catch a bass:) good luck and stay warm

How about a Silver Buddy? Maybe yo-yo that.

Drop shot tiny worms or small hair jig.

If you have any crappie jigs, those will work. Something like 1/32 or 1/16oz and pretty much deadstick it.

Like fishing when the water isn't sold you need to locate them before drilling holes to catch them.

Rapala ice jigs are made for ice fishing and work good verticle jigging anytime.

Back in the 70's before discovering Rapala ice jigs I used Northland mini white airplane jigs very successfully verticle jigging Shad schools  for bass.

i jig alot through the ice.   i caught this fish while jiggin for panfish. small jig with a gulp 1 inch minnow. 
ive jigged for smallies as well. 

blades baits, small rattle traps, drop shot im sure would work. ive caught them on spoons. but  hair jigs, maribou jigs and small plastics on light jig heads will be the best bet.

I'd personally recommend a Deps 250 drop shot rigged on a 10lb dumbell to smash through the ice

Small lipless crankbaits are a good option. I've been teeing off on walleye and the occasional suspended smallmouth with Ultralight Rippin Raps this year. Tip the front treble with a small minnow head and hold on.
