Tackle Warehouse this breaks down for you; hard baits/rip baits.

Tom

Original Rapala Floating Minnow, a classic that still works.

Yes but I don’t necessarily like what TW has.  Seeing if something I haven’t thought of pops up.

Thinking a little outside the box -

The Rapala X-Rap Sub Walk is a major sleeper for skinny water or when you want a bait that runs just under the surface but doesn't float to the top at rest.

Not talked about,  apparently not popular, doesn't seem to be fished much - but is a killer bait.

Especially the Moss Back Shiner ~ Just say'in.

I don't think of Rogues as being shallow running (4' - 6')... Rapala Flat Raps if you can find any left on Ebay.

I got my stock from tackle warehouse. They don't show them currently. Maybe give them a call. The floaters all had colored bills rather than clear ones like chartreuse or orange.

I have one of these in light blue/white and I have not caught a thing on it.  One of those things that I can't bring myself to bust out now when I have 10 other options that have worked.

It's not the bait.

The Smithwick Rogue has a lot of different models, there are 4 different floaters, a shallow diving 0' - 2' model in both a full size and the Jr. model that is 1/2" shorter with only 2 hooks. Then there are the medium diving models that run 4' - 6' in both regular and Jr. models. The shallow running models have a number that begins with "ARB" and a number in the 1200s. That said, look at the Bagley Bang-O-Lure, and the Minnow B as well as the Spro McStick 115.

I only use 3. Rogue, floating Rapala, and an older Bang - o Lure. Lots of others out there I havnt tried.I use them most in spring, but they can draw strikes in shallow water in the summer too.

Rapala original minnow F13 series floater is a good shallow running lure that can be ripped but doesn't suspend, pops right back up to surface.

My personal favorite jerk bait is Daiwa TD minnow, the original and SP types, followed by the original LC Pointer, none are shallow runners.

I have a box just for floating jerkbaits containing the following.

Smithwick Rogue

Cordell Redfin

Bomber Long A

Rapala F13

AC Shiner - No. 450 and 550

Bagley Bang-O-Lure

Rapala Shadow Rap 2-4'

Rapala Original Floater

I have lures that have never been used . One is the Ripplin Redfin . Every  time I reach for a floating minnow bait , I overlook it . Had it for 25 years or so .

Jackall squad minnow runs 1 to 3 feet.
