What would be a good all around Dobyns rod 7-7.4 Medium Heavy? Going to throw all applications on it. Fury line to Champion I would say. 

I have a Fury MH/F and I love it. I don't have other Dobyn's to compare it to, however, so I can't help you there.

You will very likely want to go with the 4 power in the Dobyns lineup.  Highly recommend the Champion 734 based on what you are saying.

That ones a Heavy rod, I was thinking more medium heavy. But what made you suggest the heavy?

Dobyns generally run a power lighter than most,  my 733 fishes like a true medium power rod.

 

What Dobyns calls a heavy is not a heavy (in my opinion) and is much closer to most other manufacturer's medium heavy.  If you look at the weight recommendations they also line up a lot closer to what most others designate as a medium heavy, which is that 1/4 to 1 oz rating.  I am just speaking with experience to Dobyns and what I would recommend to you as the most "all purpose" rod.

Gotcha, is the jump from a Fury to a Champion worth it in your opinion?

For bottom contact stuff yes, but it doesn't matter as much for moving baits.  Black Friday 20% off is coming soon at Tackle Warehouse and I know it works on Dobyns rods, FYI.

For sure the Dobyns Champion 734 is the best all around rod they make. You can literally throw just about anything on it and it will handle it well.

Dobyns rods run 1 power lighter than advertised. Nothing in fishing is set in stone so don’t get caught up in manufactures labels. 

 

734 champion is what you want. 

Champion 734 can do pretty much anything you want. I use mine for spinnerbaits and buzzbaits mostly.

Having fished with a mojo bass and a fury id pick the fury every time. The St Croix felt like a broomstick in the hand. 

My first Dobyns rod a few years ago was a Champion 733c. Back then, I was a bank fisherman and only carried 1 or 2 rods with me. Usually one baitcaster and one spinning setup. I would highly suggest the 733c Champion model if it's in your price range. It's not too light but then it's not too heavy. You can throw spinners, chatter baits, jerk baits, and spooks very comfortably. At the same time, it's a wonderful rod to throw lighter Texas rigs, C rigs, flukes, and finesse jigs. The extra length on the rod was also awesome for casting distance. 

 

Of course there are better rods for each application and the 733c isn't the ideal rod power and tip for everything, but not everyone has the budget or storage for technique specific setups. If I had to start, the 733c would be my choice.

Check the for sale section an Dobyns refurbs. Get the best rod you can afford. I am happy with my fury, but there is no comparison to the Champion line. May as well get the Champ so you never have to say well what if like I always do with my Fury 705.

Guys, I have been unable to locate a store in my area that has anything but the usual items like at cabellas or bass pro. I stumbled upon a local shop that was amazing. They had every rod you read about in the forums. I was able to compare Donny’s, Shimanos, Megabass, etc. I was blown away by the Champion 734c compared to the avid as well as the fury vs the mojo bass. So noticeable in the hand. The Champion 734 was the first rod I felt even more than the avid x that had perfect balance. No tip heaviness at all. I think I’m going with the champion 734c at 20% off. They also handle warranty at the counter. Can’t wait!

Lamiglas power ratings are; 2 medium light, 3 medium, 4 medium heavy and 5 heavy for standard bass rods. Gary labels his rods for specific applications and mixed 1/2 power up or down depending on the rod series, i.e., 4 1/2 is labeled Heavy in lieu of MH Xfast. Without a industry standard anglers compare apples to oranges with 1/2 powers adding to the confushion.

I would call Dobyns they are honest and often have some great deals.

I got my oldest son a Dobyns Sierra 704C last year for his birthday. It's rated as a H/F rod, but is more of a MH/F rod and has a pretty solid tip. That rod is 7' and you could also go with the 7'3" 734C.

Their support is also pretty solid. When I bought the 704C for my son, I knew what he wanted to fish but wasn't sure if I wanted a 703C or 704C so I told support what he likes to fish and they said the 704C would be a better fit.

Mojos are sweet rods, nice blanks scIII, and a great warranty I’ve had a few and they have never failed me. If you’re looking for an multiple application rod go with the 7 mhmf spinnerbait rod you can literally get away with doing almost everything.

Grab a 744 Champion.

I have the Fury 704C and really like the balance and sensitivity of it.  I have it paired with a Lew's MB baitcaster.  It is my main t-rig/jig rod.

I got my oldest son a Sierra 704C for his birthday. It's basically a stout MH/F rod, although it's rated as heavy. So I will second going with a 4 power if you are looking for a traditionalk MH/F rod.
