Texas rig hook size

Featured Replies

I plan on fishing creature style baits and brush hogs. I will be using a medium action rod. What size hooks are best for these baits.

I like to use a hook with a gap that is twice as wide as the bait .

I use a 3/0 EWG, but everyone will have a preference.  The 3/0 size has never let me down.

This.  Get some 3/0, 4/0, and 5/0 and 90% of the bases will be covered.

I use 4/0 for most of my plastic so I can buy a value pack. I use with rage craw-menace, 5-6” Senko, Super Fluke, havoc pit boss, missile bait d-stroyer and 7.5” worm, including brush hog.

this might help.

Most of the time I use 4/0 EWG style hooks.

I stock my box just like @J Francho .  But a 4/0 EWG rarely lets me down.  In fact, if it's a smallish worm I will just switch to a 4/0 offset shank round bend hook.

I use a 3/0 for brush hogs, sweet beavers, chigger craws, etc. I use a 4/0 for 7" Power worms, senkos, lizrds, etc and I use a 5/0 for 10" power worms

Owner Twistlock Light size 3/0 or 4/0 depending on the creature bait size. Medium power rod is problematic to drive heavier hooks into a basses mouth.

They make poor copies of other brand hooks.

The size of the hook will vary depending on the soft plastic you are using. @J Francho has you covered on most of them. I would strongly suggest you go with a medium heavy rod if possible. A medium will not be stiff enough to get a good hook set with thicker plastics.

3/0, 4/0, 5/0

Available at Tackle Warehouse. The straight "bait through" with

this hook makes it fantastic! Just tuck the point into the soft-plastic.

Stays in position cast after cast. Easy to rig too.

The reason you need a minimum of 2X the plastic diameter or thickness where the hook bend is located with standard straight or off set hooks is the soft plastic ends up pushed back into the hook bend setting the hook.

The spring style attachment eleminate the plastics sliding back issue, no keeper or pegging the hook eye is needed.

Gamakatsu 4/0 ewg

I typically use an Owner Twistlock  Flipping hook with a cps.
