I was thinking about going with braid on my mh-mf shimano clarus cranking rod. Reason being im planning on doubling it for lippless cranks through the spring and kind of like braid for thwt application. Anyone fish medium diving cranks on braid/ braid to leader? Any suggestions.

I just usually use regular mono or co-polymer on my crankbait setups, you'll see alot of variations just between line type/brands/amount of stretch etc. You can also add the rod to the whole situation.

My thing is the feel i get with braid and being to cut through the water column easier. Im more just interested in other peoples experiences and what size braid they use

I tried it once I missed a lot of fish and I pulled the hooks out of a lot of fish I stick to fluorocarbon on my crankbaits rods.

For crankbaits I use floro or mono. I want tight wobbles. When I did use braid I noticed how “loose” the wobbles were. It’s definitely makes a difference having the right line. I’d go with floro.

Crankbaits - YZH. 12# on the BC for most of them, 10# on the spinner for shallow/lipless.

I fish braid on every rod, every reel, every lure.  As a rule, if it's a single hook bait, I use 50 lb.  Treble hook baits, 30 lb.  Spinning rods 10 lb.

 

I like slower rods than most people do.  Use a lot of glass rods.  Don't believe I have any problem with braid on treble hook baits.  Soft rod, 74 year old soft hands.  I don't think braid of appropriate size changes the lure action.  It just changes what you feel.

 

Generally use either FC or mono leaders.  6 - 25 lb test, depending on the application.

 

I have a lot of good friends, a lot of good fishermen, that think I'm crazy, but it works for me.  I catch a lot of fish and win a lot of money.  If it feels comfortable to you and works, use it.

I have used braid and when I did , I made sure to have it on a softer rod with drag a tad loose.  If it feels good , do it.

 

I needed line that was better for abrasion.

 

I've done the braid for cranking , I used 15lb 832 with a  loose drag , the loose drag is the key,but I still prefer flouro for cranking.

I use 20 lb braid with a 12 lb mono leader for all my cranks.  I used M/Mod rods.

I like braid on that rod 6lb - 10lb.

@Bdnoble84 I’d like to use 20-30lb braid. Straight braid if there’s grass, and a 10-12lb fluorocarbon leader for open water.  IMHO, the bass is gonna be more focused on the bait as opposed to worrying about the line...

Im not worry bout them seeing the line, ill go 8-12lb mono or fluro for the leader, just concerned with ripping lips. Going to try 30lb braid. No sure if my rod is really soft enough since i broke 3 inches of tip off but i think im going to try it. Ill switch to fluoro or copoly if it isnt right

I've been running braid on my St Croix LTG for a couple years and have not lost any fish.

 

I see it as I get all the benefits of sensitivity from braid and depth using a crankbait and once a 

fish is hooked the smooth buttery taper keeps the fish pinned

 

love it. 

I prefer mono or co-polymers for treble hooks, but a brother-in-law in Florida that I fish with when visiting there uses 40# braid on all his spinning reels.  He doesn't used casting reels.  His second favorite lure is an F11 floating Rapala.  He has no problem landing bass.  I will say that his rods have plenty of tip.    They are all cheapy rods.

I love the feel of fluoro but after a few casts I always get cocky and nest it. I was thinking about braid with a long leader this season but I really want to keep it straight fluoro.

I tried it once and I'll never go back. I much prefer Mono on my crankbait setups.

 

I'm actually thinking of trying 10 or 12lb Yo-zuri hybrid this year.

I like to use braid on cranking as it allows for a smaller diameter line to get deeper faster.  I usually go with 8lb diameter and haven't had issues losing fish.  Loosen the drag a little more than normal and let the parabolic action of the cranking rod do it's job.

I'm confused...I thought people preferred fluoro because it sinks and braid doesn't sink...so by using fluoro you can get another foot or two of depth.  I would also think that fluoro would get down to depth faster. 

Crankbait depth is determined by bill design mainly and then line diameter.  The ability for braid to "float" doesn't impact the baits depth but rather the ability to use smaller diameter line does impact diving depth.  You also won't get a foot or two more depth by running flouro.  
 

I've used 50lb braid for cranks for years with a snap. Hardly ever loose a fish. Just don't horse them. Keep the drag loose.what you feel with the braid is amazing. The 50lb Sufix 832 works great in rocks. As far as the rod I use a mh moderate fast falcon bucoo.You can crawl the crank up and down huge boulders and stop it when it contacts then let it float up. You can feel them suck it in when they strike.

Is this a mf cranking rod? Or cranking rod to you? 

 

IMO mf + braid = heartbreak 

 

Id go to a true moderate with mh 

No issues using braid on my moderate rods with cranks, no leader either. 

Its a true mf. Its a crankbait specific rod. Im going to try in alittle bit, i have 6’ 10lb xt for a leader. This line seems to have decent memory, so hopefully i get some good shock absorption. See what happens. I can always switch out if i dont like it.
