I just started getting into baitcasters although I've used convention drop down setups saltwater my whole life.  I'm doing fine with senkos and spinnerbaits on a Shimano SLX setup.  Recently I just purchased a Curado 200 8:5:1 and a Dobyns 735C for my new frog rod.  I plan on fishing some heavy cover and pads over the summer.  Can you recommend line?  I was considering spiderwire 50lb but I see a lot of mixed reviews out there on durability.  I'm okay risking tangles while I get more used to baitcasters but I also read some reviews about how bad it can get!  Anyway looking forward to your comments.

I use 50 or 65# Smackdown.

50# Power Pro Spectra. 

I use 50# Power Pro on my frog rod.

50lb Sunline FX2. My absolute favorite braid. Been throwing frogs on that line for many years (and I throw frogs A LOT).

50lb Power Pro or Smackdown.  Both are great.  I did not care for Spider Wire. 

50 lb Power Pro V2 for isolated cover, 65 lb Power Pro V2 for heavy cover. I really like Smackdown but its not as abrassion resistant as the Power Pro V2. I really like Smackdown and never any failure issues however it does fray easier than 832 and Power Pro V2 so I have to retie more. Prefer it for swim jigs and throwing 20 lb braid to 8 lb leader for dropshots.

 

PP V2 and Smackdown are my preferred braids but 832 is good too 

I use 65lb PP Spectra in Moss Green. I could get away with 50lb or even 40lb in my area but the occasional visits to the Cal Delta calls for a bit heaver line. I do not see any negative affects of using the heavier line if you have only 1 frog setup and one spool to spool. 

I use 65 lb suffix 832. I was thinking about dropping down to 50 to see if I can get a little more distance. But I can cast a frog a country mile with my setup with 65lb.

My 200 has 50lb Sufix 832 on it on an old MH 7' KVD rod he intended for worm fishing and it is really stout.  I have not seen to need to go beyond 50lb.

50lb braid of your choice 

50 or 65lb braid. I like power pro, but grew up using spider wire and honestly have nothing against it. Also I prefer 4-carrier braid for frogs. It's a rougher line by nature which makes casting and reeling it in noisier, but it's more abrasive which IMO makes it better at cutting through vegetation. 8-carrier will cast better though.
