New DC Baitcaster

Featured Replies

Just picked up a NRX 893C and am looking to try a DC reel.  I am debating between the SLX DC and the Curado DC.  I know there is a fair price difference between the 2, but reviews have them on a fairly even playing field.  The biggest difference I have heard is the"smoothness" of the Curado.  Please give me your thoughts!!  Thank you.

Biggest difference is the K has micro gears and X-ship. Both are fine reals but theoretically the K should hold up better for heavy applications making it more of a "workhorse" reel than the SLX.

^^^^^^^^this

The Curado name in general, has been known as the workhorse and most popular in the shimano line since it came out. I would definitely spend the little extra cash and get the curado DC.

I would be all over a 20 Metanium for that stick........

I ended up with the Scorpion DC & have been using for a while now. I like it enough That I just ordered another. The Scorpion DC is the Japanese version of the Curado DC with the I-DC 5 brake system.

What about pairing up that NRX with a complimentary Metanium DC instead.

Bingo

I have that set-up and its awesome.

I don't think you need to spring for a 20 Met, but its your money.

That said, if $$ isnt an object, you can find Conquest MBR's for 400.00

I think the question is between the Curado DC & the SLX DC system.  I have a Curado KXG which does not have the I-DC4 brake system which the Curado DC has. Chadm ask specifically the for the comparison between the above 2 DC reels. I do not have the SLX DC reel but mentioned the Scorpion DC because of the better DC system  Kicker I appreciate your information on the Curado K but I don't think it answers the question, nor does mine completely.

I have an SLX DC and 2 regular Curado Ks. I think the price difference really comes down to some upgraded internals as someone else mentioned. I love both reels and the SLX DC has actually performed beyond my expectations. The curado definitely feels smoother with the better gearing but it honestly isn't an insane difference. I think the real difference will likely be how long it holds us. Those upgraded internals will likely get you more life out of the reel than the SLX but they both feel amazing right now.

Well, I decided to pull the trigger on the Curado DC.  Thank you all for the input.  I have never spent this much on a reel before so just wanted some good input.  I am sure it will become an addiction along with wanting/needing high end rods!!  LOL

Just my opinion. The 893 balances best with a reel that weighs as much as the bantam mgl. I've tried my metaniums on them and they are tip heavy.

The curado DC will balance it well

Yes, I figured the little extra weight of the Curado over some of the other models may actually be an advantage!

Actually, the Met DC is 100.00 more than the 20' Met.

^This. If it must be a DC reel, it is a sacrilege to not get a Metanium DC for that rod.
