Keeping track of bass caught

Featured Replies

You can always send a text to your email of the amount of bass you caught, along with other information. That way you can save money and can use that extra money to buy more important things.

  • I once hired a marshal to tally the fish my wife & I caught, and to record the date, time & lure. Sadly, I had to let him go, there just wasn't enough work to keep him busy

It's fun to track numbers, baits, etc., but largely meaningless. Every so many years I track, too, just for something to do. A lot obviously depends on the individual angler and the waters you fish. Y

With July winding down I'm updating my years catch . With this heat I had to change my fishing . No more day trips for hours out on a lake . I have night fished twice , waded a rivar a couple of times and have been driving gravel roads , stopping at culverts , irrigation ditches and Mississippi river back water .Been catching them pretty good and getting some smallmouths .Beetle spins have been killing it and jig/grub combos too . The updated numbers  are

463  bass caught

117  spinnerbait

 97 toad

 86 worm

 66 crankbait

 49 Beetlespin

 39 grub

  9 buzzbait

Deep fishing has never took off for me this summer but the shallow bite has been strong . For some reason the algae matts have shrunk and spinnerbaits over the top has been working extremely well . Worms in the brush has been consistent    .Toads still producing and beetle spins for river smallies and culverts .

The year totals

705 bass caught

211  spinnerbait

156  worm

142  toad

74  beetlespin

72  crankbait

40  jig and grub

20  buzzbait

I feel like I've barely fished for bass in the last month, I'm right around 1620 for the year.

Well now...I think most of us would consider that "above average".

I was out of action   for three weeks with a pinched nerve in my neck . Last week I got out twice and caught close to a hundred largemouths at a lake and add a few smallies from a river bumps my yearly total too 907 . Its early fall and largemouths are being caught in the back half of creeks on spinner and buzzbaits .I'm heading to Lake of the Ozarks soon for a week, maybe I'll hit 1000 while there .I dont expect to catch a lot  as  I havent been a very successful dock fisherman in the past. I plan on heading way up  a river and fish areas  more to my liking .

907 bass caught

spinnerbait  335

worm          177

toad           140

beetlespin    81

crankbait     76

buzzbait      55

jig n grub    40

jig                3

I will not be surprised if you pass 1000 bass this year since you still got over 3 months to do it. You can probably get it done in October since you only have 93 bass left.

I usually dont get much fishing in after October .   1000 should be reached easily . I'll hit a local lake later this week  , hopefully , and add 40 to 60 more .

All my fish came out of the water and I did not count. :P

I put every trip on fish brain with just a couple pictures of main fish caught. Restrict viewing to myself only.

My main reason is to keep track of seasonal variability at different lakes and rivers.  There are over 2000 options within 5 hours of me so it is good to keep track.

If I can see the exact date that muskies were going crazy I can narrow my timeline the next year. Likewise some lakes are great until too many weeds grow so it is nice to have a yearly record of when that happened. Others improve so if i look at the map and my comment from june 17th 2018 is "minimal weeds"...that's helpful. Next year try to go around July 1.

There's one lake, for example, where you can catch fish near the launch but as summer progresses they move to the other end of the lake. I kayak so that's a 1 hour paddle. I want to remember roughly when that happens.

Also helps keep track of all the lakes i went out of my way to get to and the fishing sucked so I know not to return. Jogs the memory. I "remembered" pretty good fishing on one lake waaay out of the way but when i looked at the log it showed my largest bass was only like 2.5 pounds and i was kinda sour that day catching all dinks.

If I fished one big lake most the time as opposed to 100 different ones I would see less need to write this all down.

That sounds like a fun lake to fish and you should be able to catch the remaining bass quickly there. What is the average size of these bass? There are days I have caught over 100 bass in a couple hours but most of these bass are only 1-2 pounds average weight with the biggest one 4-5 pounds. I have noticed that some of the places I catch 8 pound or better bass are not the best places to catch more than 40 bass in a day and most of the time less than 20 bass.

For the first time in my life I've been trying to keep a running tally of bass caught , what lure and date caught . I'm not getting too technical with temps , clarity and so on .So far in six outings , these are the approximate numbers . Its been a spinnerbait spring but the other lures are starting to pick up . Just thought it was interesting how much spinnerbaits have dominated early on .

153  bass caught .

107 on spinnerbaits

18 on toads

18 on crankbaits

10 on texas rig .

If you use this data for each body of water I can see how valuable it can be.

As for me, I fish for the love of the sport and do not keep a count of the number of fish caught or on what baits.

Most are 1 to 2 lbs with a good number over 15 inches . I usually get a limit over 15 inches  . I have caught plenty of 6 & 7 lbers but not this year .

Early this year someone asked how many fish we caught in  our lives . Everybody had a hard time answering that . I took a guess at 40,000 so decided to count how many bass get caught this year just to see if I was in the ballpark . Seems like a reasonable guess .

Sounds similar to what you can expect to catch in the Everglades with the exception that you might get a 4-5 pound or better bass in the mix. You can expect to catch a bunch of other native and exotic species of fish while bass fishing which is a huge plus for me.

I started logging my fishing trips 20 years ago. Modeled my fishing log after an outfitter in Canada and an old family friend.

Amazing how much I forget about fishing trips, number of fish caught, mishaps, locations, what worked and what didn't.
