Golden Shiner patterns?

Featured Replies

Hey guys. So up here in the Northeastern part of the United States specifically New Jersey we don't really have threadfin shad population but we do have gizzard shad and alewifes but the lakes I fish have a very big population of shiners specifically the golden shiner. (Pictured below) what are some good swim jigs/swim baits/cranks I could use or color patterns for these bairs to use to match the hatch?

Rapala has a golden shiner color you can google and see it.

It is listed on the auction site in a shallow diving 5 1/2" model called a Super Shadrap Shallow.

zman jackhammer comes in a golden shiner...dirty jigs has a nice golden shiner color in several of the swim jig offerings...also a lot of companies offer lipless in gold black back which looks to be a good option

First thing I thought of is a gold foil Rapala Fat Rap that I have . They dont appear to be made any more . The perch Fat Rap still has the gold foil belly . I think gold foil shad raps are still available .

Here’s a few.

@SC53 gotta ask what your success has been like with those livetarget swimbaits.  Hope that doesn't get into the realm of threadjacking...

What would be a good color trailer to throw on that?

Not a lot...but didn’t throw them much. One of our members got a couple from me and hope he does well.

I was watching them the other night as they were suspended about a foot beneath the surface. They dart and stop/suspend. Short darting. Quite different than a gill. This could be a right now thing, but I wished that I had a shallow suspending jerkbait with a flashy pattern with me at that moment.

Never thrown that color but Houdini and Copperfield look good to me for trailers

We have gold shiners on my local lake. We throw Cordell Super Spots, Rapala Minnows and X-Raps in gold. I throw the Houdini colored Zoom Flukes and swimming flukes. One of the best baits here is the War Eagle gold series double willow spinnerbait in gold shiner pattern. @cadman made me some custom gold shiner swimjigs. Other than those specific gold baits, we catch them on the usual stuff. Honestly, here bass seem to prefer other soft plastic colors. But they love gold in the hard baits.

I just picked up this lucky craft golden shiner (top) .  It actually looks pretty close.  I think I bought it from TW

86 Baits x SU Golden Shiner Glide if you can find it for a decent price.

I think if you go in Bill Lewis Rat-L-Trap web site, you'll find a couple of patterns like golden shiner.

Bleeding shiner rat-l-trap has always been my best color down here.

Siebert Outdoors has a nice golden shiner pattern you can get on a jig, fogy bladed jig, or spinnerbait.

Here’s a 7” slow sink bullshad my buddy painted in golden shiner for me.

Storm has a medium (for swimbaits) sized line of swimbaits with a gold looking perch and bunker patterns. I ahve the bunker, but I haven't used it yet. it just came in the mail a couple days ago. My buddy has used his perch pattern one and got a 3 pounder on it. It's about 6" long, 1 3/8 oz.

I haven't seen any soft bait options yet, so here's a good fluke type bait color. It's Kalin's Sizmic Jerk Minnow in Arkansas Shad.
