Anyone still using Storm Subwart?

Featured Replies

I heard they are decent wake bait(especially 2 in model), and naturally I'm curious. How good are they; are they on par with, say, Mann baby one minus?

I've never thrown one myself but I've seen many on here claim they are the best ever in the category of ultra shallow cranks. I just started throwing super shallow cranks this year...strike king kvd 1.5 shallow and 1xs...and have had great luck. Wish I could find a couple subways to try.

You already know what my answer is Eddie!  The 2 inch versions are GOLD

I've only got one 2 incher left and 2 of the smaller ones.  IMO they blow the kvd shallow and manns baby 1 minus out of the water.

Honestly, I got a 2” Subwart and only use it sparingly. Like I mentioned in your previous thread, I like the Baby 1-, the small BPS Egg, and the Academy Sports brand wakebaits. Have tons of success on all 3. If you’re new to wakebaits and just wanting to start testing the waters with them, begin with these - they’re all affordable & readily available. And most importantly, they’re not the astronomical amount of $45 on eBay just cause they’re discontinued. ?

If you need proof, look at my profile pic, 8 pounder caught on a Baby 1-. Of course, I changed to stock hooks to some short shank gamakatsu trebles. ?

Same group of baits, but check out the Duo Realis Kabuki 50 SSR, 0 to 1 foot depth and a super wide wobble.

I really wish I still had some Subwarts. They were a killer little bait.

Not sure exactly. That's been 15 years ago. Can't remember if I lost them, gave them away, or what happened.

The Storm Arashi Wake is a good wake bait and the new Strike King 2.5 Wake is a good one also.

That’s a rare find.

There are 2 or 3 around here that all need repainted. Something is up with the paint that you can just wipe it off?

Still have two of them tucked away, have not used since about 2010.  Back then I did a lot of wade fishing for Smallmouth in shallow rivers and they were excellent producers, also scored an occasional Northern, Walleye, and Rock Bass with them.  I remember once climbing a thorn tree to retrieve one.  Today I live on a deep highland reservoir and had not even thought about them until this article.

I have a few of them, but there is one size and color I always take with me.

Smallmouth in shallow rivers

That is how I use mine almost exclusively. It’s a tremendous shallow river smallmouth lure.

I have 2 of the big ones and 2 of the smaller ones. I've had them for years. Caught small bass on the smaller ones but nothing on ythe big subwart. IDK if the louder rattle sound, the SoCal bass don't like them.

Don't have anymore Subwarts.  Lost them all to pike.  Right now I'm using a Macbeth Shallow 50 with a lot of success.

I found two of them in a tackle box I haven't used in years. I think they are the smaller ones. They never caught anything but they haven't been used much either. One is a baby bass color and the other one is a shad color. I never thought about using them for smallmouth. I may have to put them in another box and try them when I might be able to catch a smallmouth.

I like the perch pattern and fire tiger. Still have one of each.

I’m always fond of natural colors. I have a baby bass colored one that produces quite well for me.
