Smackdown on your baitcaster

Featured Replies

How do you like it?  How does it cast and come off the spool?

40 or 50 lb?  I plan on using it for pitching and casting jigs with a leader.  Thanks for any advice.

I currently have 50 lb Smackdown on my frog rig, and my pitching rig for Heavy cover. I've used a couple of other brands in the past, and can say smackdown is what I will stay with.

Cast's really well, no downside to it that I can see. I don't use any leaders on my braid.

I have 30 lb Smackdown on a Daiwa SV TWS on a Daiwa Kage 7'3" MH-F rod. It's my favorite combo. I am using leaders from 6 lb to 10 lb mono and fluoro and fishing finesse-ish baits with it (mostly c-rig for the time being).

First, the cons: Smackdown is super limp. At times it can be difficult to get through a wet sliding sinker when retying because it is so limp. Also, when I cut the tag end, the tag end of the line kind of just poofs up. It will get roughed up fishing it through wood, rocks, and stickups, but all braid does to some extent. I just retie as soon as I see any wear or fraying.

Now, the positives: Smackdown is super sensitive. It has a great feel to it, like silk. It casts wonderfully.

The true barometer of how much someone likes a product: I would buy it again.

Smackdown is THE BOMB!

I fish #30 with #12 or #15 Gold Label leader.

Not a huge fan on my bait casters, tends to stick to itself on the spool and reduces my pitching accuracy. Phenomenal on my spinning reels though.

I tried it a few years ago and it was great line.  I liked it better than Power Pro and Sufix 832.  I bought a bunch of Seaguar Kanzen in 40, 50 and 60lb and have not had a need since.

I use it on a few reels and love it. Great on my frogging reel, casting distance is crazy.

Love smackdown and 40lb has become my go to. I struggled with dig in on 30lb but many love it. Remember 30lb smackdown is thin

I have said this a number of times, I really wish they would sell it in bulk. I will try it when I can buy 1,000 yards or so.

6lb leader with a MH fast Daiwa rod? Seems very light.

I'm making long casts with a carolina rig with a 3/4 oz or 1 oz tungsten weight and dragging it over and through stickups or weeds, so I prefer to have a stiffer rod. I have to stray somewhere and choose between keeping bottom contact, being able to work the weight and bait through stickups or weeds, and keeping fish pinned once I hook up. A more limber rod makes it more difficult to finesse the rig through cover (which seems to be a key component of the pattern). I can still usually keep fish pinned with the lighter line although most of the time I use # 8.

I try to avoid presentations that use 2 knots like braid to leader.

Long time user of Fins 60 lb original PRC braid. This year trying Smackdown 20 lb with 8 lb leader for strike indicator using unweighted Senko’s or Neko rigged worms.

If I was to make a change it would be YGK Soul-G X8 40 lb (.009D) or 45 lb (.010D ) smallest I go with a bait casting reel.
