New Here from upstate NY

Featured Replies

I live in Albany area and just took up fishing this past summer. Fished mainly Tomhannock Reservoir from august to december. I took pictures these are my biggest bass fish. Did not have a scale until the end of season and last big one I caught was 3.8 pounds on scale. One of those I got was WAYYY bigger than he was so I wish I had a scale for him! Catched most off heddon top water bait and some off blue fox silver vibrax lure. Interested in hearing if anyone else is from around this area and if they know good spots. Last catch was around Nov 18 then nothing bite the last few times I went and ice was starting to form.

Welcome, If you're in the Albany area I do know there is a couple spots on the Mohawk River in Crescent right next to the Crescent Bridge on route 9(Loudon rd.).  My company has a plant in Cohoes that I sometimes cover and I wish I could bring a pole with me when I stay up there and get an hour to fish that spot.

I actually fished that spot once years and years ago when I tried to get into fishing. I forgot all about it. Thanks for reminding me of it I will check it out when im out that way. I wonder if its fishable now or froze. Does the river freeze like the lakes is now?

Not sure, I haven't been up there since September.  I don't think it's been cold enough to freeze.  I live in Connecticut and our rivers aren't frozen, at least the few I live next to.

Welcome! :)

Welcome Fred, good to see another NYer, although it is always interesting for someone near Massena, NY to hear Albany described as "upstate". ;)

Anything north of Poughkeepsie is Upstate NY.

As someone who grew up 20 miles from the Canadian border, I always affirmed the notion that if you can't spit into Canada, you ain't in upstate New York. ?
