Do you have to put a swivel on the line to keep down the line twist ?

I don't worry it. Only time I use a swivel, even on a spinning reel, is for a Donkey Rig (Double Fluke Rig) or Carolina Rig. Otherwise it's always direct tie.

Not for a grub.  Tie direct to the jig.

Not even if T-rigged. The bait wiggles, doesn't spin.

Agreed. I tie direct to the hook as well.

Yep, also my only use case for a swivel.

And spoons.  I fish spoons a good bit they'll ruin you line without a good swivel!

I don't fish spoons...no a non-issue here.

If I'm fishing a 7in ribbontail t-rigged with a light weight swimming it, which I often do, I'll add a swivel to cut down line twist on spinning gear. You can see the worm twisting and the hook spinning as you reel twisting the line if you don't. 

 

I'll also use a lighty weighted hook sometimes since it will act like a keel and keep the lure from spinning. Some like VMC weighted swimbait hooks.

Didn't think about spoons, but you are correct. However, all my spoons have swivels attached to the split rings already. ?

Put a swivel and a single hook on them all!

Nope, but I do use a big swivel sometimes 6-12" ahead of plastic in lieu of a weight for a split shot/mojo effect.

I occasionally use one ahead of a Super Fluke, braid to swivel, to an 18" fluoro leader. I was just going braid to leader, but line twist on a Super Fluke was hell.

An old farmer I worked for as a kid and taught me to be a trout fisherman showed me that with spoons 50 years ago. You are 100% correct. 

Unweighted wacky rigged worm like a trick worm rig uses a swivel above the hook.

Normally Texas rigged worm the hook acts like a keel if the worm is rigged straight on the hook, crooked rigged any worm will spin.

I always tie direct to the hook using plastic worms.
