I don’t know what jig to buy. I’ve never jig fished before but it would be great to know! Specifically a jig that imitates a bluegill and sometimes a crawfish but if there’s nothing like that then I’d just like to know what color to imitate a bluegill?

Mike at @Siebert Outdoors recommended the Grid Iron Arky package for me to get started.

Yeah that Siebert Arkie pack (5 for $17.30) is probably gonna be your best deal out the gate. FYI, I noticed you asked what JIG (singular) should you buy. Word to the wise: if you go out with just one jig and fish it the way you should, you're setting yourself up for a short trip. Take at least a handful of them because you will get hung. Good luck, they're fun; jigs are just about the only traditional bait I fish anymore, can't put em down.

I was going to recommend this as well. The Green Pumpkin Blue Magic color imitates a bluegill fairly well. With the 6th Sense Divine Hybrid Jig, you can swim it, pitch/flip it, or drag it; and, to be fair, you can do this with most jigs, but this jig in particular does an excellent job at all of it. Try different trailers depending on what you want to do with the jig.

I think you’re going about it the wrong way. The type of jig you use should be dictated by where and how you’re fishing it. As a beginner I know it can be overwhelming but there  is plenty of great information out there. As other have mentioned the “arkie” style head is the most versatile.

The Tour Grade swim jig in BG color with a GP trailer and dipped tail (grub, paddle or creature) is as fool proof as it comes.
