I am going to try a new setup, using fluorocarbon. I need the softest, thinnest by pound test, supple fluoro on the market. The problem I always have is it coiling off on the spool when I fish something on slack line and take it up to move. All fluoro I have ever used is like plastic that is a coil in its natural state.

Spinning or casting?

 

For spinning I like 6lb or 8lb Trilene XL 100% FC.  For baitcasters (and it's a no-brainer for me) > Seaguar Tatsu 12lb. 

What lb test? What technique? You are going to get a lot of opinions.

 

Also, sounds like you have used mostly junk FC.

Must be spinning if it coils. Any FC over .010 diameter ( not thickness) will take a set on spinning reels under size 2500/3000.

Use a good line dressing like KVD or TangleFree to reduce memory issues. Most manageable is Seaguar Tatsu or Sunline Sniper imo.

Sounds like you’re filling your spool too full or you’re reeling in slack line and it’s laying loose on your spool (maybe both).  As far as coils, make sure you are spooling the line on correctly and if you still get coils, strip some line off and give it a stretch.

It’ll go on a casting reel. Going to be mainly throwing jerkbaits. Yes, reeling in slack or flicking the rod and ending in slack is where I get this problem.

10# InvizX does well.  

The only fluorocarbon line I've ever used was Abraz-X, and I didn't have a ton of trouble with it, but it'd still take some set on the spool (on a baitcaster, mind you). I was using 15lb, so that probably had something to do with it. Good learning experience in terms of what I don't like in a main line.

I dunno anything about TangleFree (though I trust your advice, Tom), but I can speak to the fact that KVD line conditioner is magical. I soak the spool the night before, then hit it again with a couple squirts before I leave the house to fish.

My jerkbait on a casting reel needs are done effectively with either one of these.

I've experimented with a lot of the major big name fluoro's over the past 5 years or so and I've only ever experienced this once, and it was with a bargain dollar brand fluoro.

No issues with ANY of these at all. 

I googled what is the least fluorocarbonish fluorocarbon and BG came up...   

I have really enjoyed seaguar red label. 

I tried some of the Diawa J-Fluoro Samurai in the #18lb and I have to admit I am very impressed with it. I believe it compares very favorably with Seaguar Invisx and Tatsu.  The latter two is what I currently using on 95% of my reels.

Great, more seguar. At this point, I should get an endorsement from them. I rarely do any type of fishing without 3 spools of seafarers leader material. I get 100m spools for saltwater and use it for literally everything.

 

the next question is are these thin enough for a Curado BFS?

8 or 10 lb Tatsu would be my choice if the price doesn't bother you. If it does, Invizx would get the nod.

I’m a Seaguar guy for my fluoro, and have generally used a mix of red label, invizx, and abrazx, with the abrazx being my all around favorite. I recently switched my jerk bait rod to 10lb Tatsu, and wow is all I can say. It’s expensive, but after using it I think it’s well worth the asking price. I likely won’t use it for every application, but for things like jerk bait fishing where you have some slack line most of the time I think Tatsu will be my new go to.

Some lines have more issues with memory than others but as long as you use a quality line, you should be fine.  You are going to get some line coiling at times, especially if it has been sitting on unused reels for a while.  I would assume many of these northern fishermen who have to put their reels away for months probably have a few issues their first trip out.  I don’t use line conditioner but I fish year round and one fish fight will give it a good stretch so I don’t have issues.  Lot’s of the northern guys seem to like conditioner but it’s probably because they can’t catch fish..........I mean because of their long winters ???.

I have similar loose coils when working jerkbaits, but I use a PE mainline so not an apples to apples comparison.  My fix was keeping my thumb lightly on the spool while working the bait during the retrieve.

Then why are you swimming up stream by forcing yourself to use a line that hasn't worked for you in the past.  Fishing often has many answers to the same question, find the answer that best works for you rather than conforming to the anonymous voices of social media...

This is not difficult ^^

 

Just buy it and be done with it. Was out throwing HJ-10s yesterday on BC with 8# fluoro - no issues at all.
