baitcast reel for flipping/pitching

Featured Replies

I'm looking for a good baitcast reel for flippin/pitching?  I would be using jigs (3/8-1/2oz), texas rigged worms, and maybe a chatterbait (unsure of that).

Price range usually helps...

doesn't really matter. Less than $300 ideally.

Well, for flip/pitch I like a fast reel and have a Diawa Fuego CT-XS - which runs around $100

For $250 you can get the Diawa Tatula Elite Flip/Pitch reel

There's plenty of other brands and models between those two that would work fine for flip/pitch...too many to list really.

You know I use to think who cares how fast it is. I’m only doing short pitches. As my hands get older I want that jig back in with less effort. I went from a 5-1 to a 7.3-1 and enjoy it

I just started with an 8.1:1 and never looked back.

I use the Daiwa Elite Flip and Pitch reel....really like the oversized handle on the reel.

The Shimano Scorpion MGL, makes a great opinion for these techniques.

I echo a fast retrieve reel for pitching.  A Fuego 8.1 is a great choice as I see no need for the T-Wing for pitching.  I'm not familiar with Shimanos, but I'm sure they offer something in a high gear ratio.

But you hate the reel? HAHAHA!!!!!!!

Daiwa Tatula CT and then you'll have money left over. :drinking-62:

If you want to pitch long distance get a Lews Custom Lite at Sportsmans Outfitters foe 209.

I like my tatula sv tw 103 hs.  Very smooth reel and built like a tank.  I use it for flipping and pitching 1oz- 1 1/2 oz jigs into heavy cover.  I bought mine new but, I think it’s Generation older than what’s currently out there.  I only paid $150 and I think the latest Generation is $180-$200

For a $300 price range Abu Garcia Revo STX paired with an Abu Rod 7 6 Heavy. That's the perfect combo. Don't get an high gear ratio reel. A 6.4 or 6.6 is more then enough. HIgher Gear ratios you lose power.
