Best craw bait for weedless

Featured Replies

Does anyone have a strong opinion in favor of a certain crawfish imitation bait for fishing cover? Has to be weedless. So, probably a texas rig or fished with a weedless jig. I saw a bait the other day, don't recall which it was and it sure had a fantastic action imitating a mad crawfish, how they raise their claws when in danger. So, when the bait hits bottom or some object, the claws float upwards. There would be other favorable attributes... whatever makes it a favorite for fishing weedless! A good falling action would also be good.

My buddy fished with me today, used a Strike King craw and did great. I think it was Rage Tail. It was def Strike King.

Interesting thing today... he caught a bass on this craw bait and in the bass's mouth was a real crawfish. It looked dead to me. Or stunned. Whatever, it was a real crawfish, so, that shows you they are eating them in this lake right now! Moments later, I caught a bass and guess what it popped out... a dead Super Fluke, lol! No kidding, the fish had a fluke in its mouth! Or belly, and chucked it up. These fish are obviously in feeding mode these days. We caught 20 and had 14 over 15 inches including several about 4 lbs. Weighed with a scale to confirm!

EDIT:  If you reply, please say why you like the bait over others.

Strike King's Rage Craws & Zoom's Ultravibe Speed Craw & Magnum Speed Craw.

I like the Reaction Innovations Spicy Beaver.

I think the way you rig it has more to do with the position of the claws, I also think it has more to do with how weedless it is rather than the brand of craw.

I’ve had most my luck with the Rage craw at this point with a few being caught on the Googan Krackin Kraw.

Strike King Rage Craw and Zoom Z Craw get my votes

I don’t really fish “cover” but I like the Berkeley pit boss and chigger craw.

my favorites are Cabin Creek Express Craws!

also like the Yum Crawbug rigged with a weedless tube head inserted in it!

As someone totally dedicated to probing every piece of wood larger than 3 cubic inches in a 10000 acre lake, I cannot comprehend this

Ragetail Spacemonkey is such a good bait.  So versatile.

Gene Larew 4" Salt Craw (hard to find anymore - thankfully I have plenty enough to last me for a while)

Strike King Rage Craw or Rage Lobster

Zoom Ultra Vibe Speed Craw, Super Speed Craw, or Magnum Speed Craw.

I consider “cover” to be lily pads, hydrilla, mats, etc. I only have rip rap that has slime algae in the spring for the most part. There isn’t really any cover around here. It’s either that or submerged roots. But there’s nothing I would think counts as “cover.”

I use The Zoom Ultra Vibe Speed Craw and the Berkley Crazy Legs Chigger Craw. I have very good luck with either one. I also use the Zoom craws for a jig trailer.

I have a pretty good stock of 6" Hawg Craws!

I sometimes fish the smaller Zoom Critter Craw with a splitshot rig, when the water is clear. I used to like the Guido Bug years ago, this one is similiar, and makes a good jig trailer also.

I have also especially the Black/Blue Glitter with Blue Claws. I keep using Mend It on the ones that get torn in an effort to stretch them out as much as possible.

Zoom UV Speedcraw.  The claws are more in line with the body so I can get it through the vegetation easier.

OSP dolive beaver is super pricey but an amazing bait

By far. By far. By far. The best for me in western NY has been the 4" Pit Boss in green pumpkin. I don't know why! But it far out distances any other craw that I use. It is my number one confidence bait.
