Opened my giant mouth, now my wife doesn’t want to go to Japan

Deeerrrr-duh!

my dad always told me to never volunteer information.  Well

we are planning our next vacation as soon as this pandemic situation allows us.  I may have mentioned hitting up a few fishing stores in Tokyo.  I blew it!!  My distant gaze and slightly upturned lips as I imagined myself grabbing reels and lures by the fistful.

now I wonder if there are any fishing stores in Italy. :(  ?

my Ace in the hole is that we will have to visit her parents in Taipei soon. Tokyo is a 45 minute flight from Taipei. Hehe.

??? If only I could go to Japan. If you want to make a few quick bucks buy some shimano bfs reels and resell them brand new in the states, jdm reels especially bfs are hard to get. Also Japan has a ton of really good finesse rigs you would have never thought of here in the states.

I would bring back a few.  But I wouldn’t profit from this forum.  You all are much too valuable a resource.

lake biwa.... oh man, how i would love to fish there.

there are TONS of other cool reasons to go to japan.  where else can you see the relics of sengoku jidai?  google image?   you could go to kyoto and walk around the gion. just ask before taking pics of anyone or anything. the nite life in shibuya, shopping in osaka, pachinko parlors, the list is endless.

True. We spent a week in shinjuku and my head was blown clean off the entire time.  The sights and smells alone.

Never saw a tackle shop

Lake Biwa would absolutely NOT be the thing to bring up now with the wife. :)

Traveling isn’t for everyone. It’s the coolest thing we do.  Wife and I. I want to see it all.

my favorite freshwater catch of all time was a giant I hauled out of a river in the jungles of Peru.  Jankiest rod/reel setup I’ve ever held in my hands.  The reel was held on with wire!!  Man I still laugh out loud when I think about it.  Trip cost me $25 and a bag of twinkies.  True story.

I hate riding on planes for a long time.  The confined space and air pressure gets to me after a while.

If your wife changed your travel plans over a couple of hours in a tackle shop, you were never going to Japan

You do realize this post was in fun right?

Japan during summer?  No thank you - couldn't pay me enough to go.  Got up up at 5:30 am to go running.  Stepped out of the hotel and was swamped by heat and humidity.  Turned around and went back to bed.

Japan, Florida, Hawaii - all wonderful places - aren't fun during the peak midsummer heat/humidity for outdoor activities.

don't ever come to delaware if you don't like humidity.  not  that there's any reason someone would come here on purpose. but yeah, humidity, it's a thing here. my ex was from osaka.  she complained about the humidity here

Vegas is apparently a pretty good foodie destination, but the greater bay area has no shortage of three Michelin star restaurants.  So why else would one want to go to Vegas?

BTW, it's true that dry heat feels less oppressive than humid heat, so if you like Vegas, then there's that.

My nephew will be moving there in the next month or so, depending on covid restrictions, to attend college. He's got a mild form of autism which, when something interests him, allows him to focus on it intently. He fell in love with Japanese culture beginning with anime and taught himself to speak Japanese fluently while in high school.

Me, I'm like you. If I can't drive there, i have no interest in going. I don't mind flying, but I hate the whole airport experience, being treated like cattle being lead to slaughter.

Tica reels are made in Taipei since 1960

(and sold in Italy)
