Our Latest Foster Dog ~

BB's is a year old Siberian Husky who's coming from a fairly troubling situation.

She has the typical high energy Husky temperament and after a bit of focused socialization / training she'll be ready to go to her forever home.

Picked her up yesterday and she went on her first "in the harness" run today.

Decent start I'd say.

Are you not going to add her to your current stable?

Grandma decided to take home a stray last week. We were at the house in Wisconsin and the cat was underneath her deceased stepfathers boat. Grandma talked to the neighbors and they all said she has been roaming around begging for food. Vet gave her a clean bill of health minus worms which they gave her a shot and we need to recheck in 2 weeks.

Cool ~

No - Timing's not right for us.

While we've certainly had our share of "Foster Failures"

we had to make a 'plan' a while ago as far as what we are going to do & most importantly,

when.  With the recent passing of Teddy and our Two Big malamutes being 10 years old,

once they cross the bridge, the outside kennel will be empty.

First time ever and we're not looking forward to that.

Plan is to switch breeds then (puppies) to something with 'less tonnage'.

Easier to handle, especially that first two years.

Tough call for sure.

Time will tell.

Until then we'll foster as the opportunities are presented.

You're going to need 1000 chihuahuas to pull the sled....Seems like a lot of work. :wink7:

LOL ~

You'd be surprised -

I'm a light weight and once I wax up those runners,

those sleds glide along with minimal effort . . .

If you're interested, my brother has the hook up at the Iditarod. He's a truck driver and delivers the "nutrient mush" they mix in with the deer and caribou meat they feed the sled dogs. Maybe something can "fall off the truck" if you know what I mean. :wink7:

Thanks but we're good.

That mush (usually frozen & ground salmon I think)

is some pretty noxious stuff.

It comes from California so there might be some liberal tears mixed in with it.

Two of the dogs Nora and I added to the family were shelter dogs. Taking one in that someone else 'discarded' shows how big of hearts you and Lynn have. All the best to the new addition to the family, Andy,

Nothing wrong with that...

Beautiful dog A-Jay. She deserves a good home.  I'm sure you'll see that she gets there.

How do you not keep them all?

We have 3 neighbor dogs that spend 3-4 nights a week at our house.

My wife is like they're gonna get cold and wet

I'm like well maybe they'll go home then

So we've got 3 dog houses on the front porch now

Sometimes it's pretty hard not to.

As I've mentioned before, when we started, we 'kept' one here & there.

Didn't take long to realize that there was definitely a 'limit'

and we may have surpassed it once or twice.

Since then we've come to learn to love the process just as much (or More perhaps)

than the dogs themselves.

At least that's what we keep telling ourselves . . .

Either way, this little Husky is turning out to be a real sweetheart and seems to be

working overtime to steal our hearts.

This makes it both easy & hard to place her . . . .

BB went to her forever home today.  Nice couple from down state came up to get her.  The meeting went well as BB and her new owners were both smitten right away.

Sad to see her go but happy she's in the right home.
