I watch this videos more than 100 times, I always get backlash with casting that way, I couldn't do it once for pit sake, So I always do side casting.

It is a challenge to cast like that, but it is easier with a more moderate action rod and finding your sweet spot for the brake.  The trick behind it is to get the rod tip to load as much as possible and timing your spool release as the tip is loaded.  Once you get the hang of it, it's very, very easy to fire off a low trajectory cast, even on a brush choked creek.  Ideally, this casting technique works best with a sub 5' rod.  I taught myself that technique last season with my Millionaire CT and find myself using it often when fishing skinny water.

Now I’ve wavered in my resolve and find myself slightly cracking to contemplate about BFS.

Saw a video years ago I can't find now, of a tribal guy in a bamboo boat....casting and reeling in his  lure with his hands.  He was really tearing it up.  He also whacked every fish over the head immediately after landing them.  Anybody seen this?

I've watched some of his videos before.  An expert caster with amazing accuracy.  I am very jealous.  His rod looks like a wet noodle.  Flexes all the way to the handle on many of his casts.  I don't know what weight he is casting, but assume it is quite light.

I can't speak to any given video, but some of the JDM trout plugs he uses are pretty heavy for their size, 3-5g lures seem to be common.  They also tend to start at like $15 and go up from there, so there is some good motivation to get those casting skills sharpened up! 

.105-.176 oz. (3-5g) is pretty light for me.  I can cast #5 Shad Raps (3/16 oz. =  5.316g) pretty well, but lighter not so good.  I've got 2 aftermarket spools to try, but haven't been healthy enough to get them set up for a trial run.

I have seen that video but it didn't inspire me to try hand line fishing.  Angler Saito's BFS casting videos are very dangerous to my fishing budget!

For as much as I'd like to try one of the JDM plugs, we have plenty of stuff domestically that works great.  I use HD Lures Dynamic Trout, Rapala Ultralight Minnow/Countdown/Original, and the Yo Zuri Pins Minnow/L Minnow.
