Should I Get an Orochi XX

Featured Replies

I want to get the Megabass Orochi XX Braillist but am scared to make the move. I like the rod fro what I wanna do but from reviews on TW a lot of people have snapped casting versions of the Orcochi XX. I saw a lot of problems with the perfect pitch but also saw stuff on the Spec R, Flatside Special, and EMTF. I didn’t see anything on the Braillist though which makes me more confident. I really like the cosmetic look and also it looks perfect for what I want to do. Even Tactical Bassin uses it as their jig rod. I want to throw literally bottom bait up to a half oz and swim jigs. If anyone has experience with the Braillist or even other Orochi’s I’d like to get other opinions on it (Preferably the casting models though).

The answer is yes, they supposedly solved the breaking issue and put it back on the market.

Yes

If you got the $$$ and you’re going to use it, go for it.

I own one. I too was on the fence about them. I really like the destroyer though so I figured Id at least try it out.

It really shines with 3/8 and up jigs, dark sleepers, and bottom cruising swimbaits.

I love mine alot..

I’ve only heard that being resolved with the Levante. They did it with the Orochi?

I heard about the redesign of the Levante too, dunno about the Orochi.

The orochi didn't have the breakage issues that the levante had. the levante was pulled from shelves and redesigned. People break rods for a litany of reasons and claim they "babied" it and then smear them on reviews. I've heard very, very little of the Gen 1 Orochi, which I love, and as well as the Gen2 orochi that you are wanting as having "breakage" issues. Ignore TW reviews. It's like getting health advice at a fast food convention.

I was going to say the same as above.  It was the Levante that had breaking issues, not the OrochiXX.

The Braillist was the first OrochiXX I ever purchased, it's my jig rod.

I now have 8 Orochi XX's, various models.  Never, ever, had one snap.  And obviously love them.

Caught 20+ lb musky on flatside special and perfect pitch while bass fishing with zero issues.

A 20+ pound musky on a Flatside Special must have been quite a battle.  What lure did you have tied on?

Dt14, this particular fish wasn't nearly as crazy as the one I caught on the perfect pitch stroking a jig for whatever reason.

I had both my Orochi Braillist and Orochi Perfect Pitch break at the top 4-5 inches on casts. Levantes have been re-done and I have better confidence in them. I went through the warranty process (MB was very good) but decided to go with the Levante. So far, so good and I don’t see a big difference in sensitivity/weight, etc.

I know I am in the minority here....but I think there are better rods for the money that do not have a breakage history and easier replacement policy......and I own a few MB rods

Not being argumentative, just curious, but what lines are you thinking of?

They are a little higher at $350, but the Poison Adrena I have is insanely good and compares favorably to the US Destroyers or GLXs.

....not argumentative at all.

It fished it along side the GLX/ jig and GLX/MBR  and it felt heavy and not as balanced at the GLX.  I think the sensitivity also goes to shimano, thought some complain of the GLX reel seat.  That coupled with the Shimano guarantee and the breakage history of MG, hept me away.

If you were talking Flatside Special or some of their spinning rods, that would be different.

Don't  get me wrong, it's a very good rod......Just not for me..Good Luck

I've only handled the first gen XX's when BPS carried them in store.  The 'great balance' didnt override the rods heavier weight IMO.  Opinions are like b-holes though, and these rods have a following.  Sure would look at the adrena...

I have one. One of my favorite rods. Probably in my top 3. Gave me the confidence I needed to finally learn a jig! I would recommend it.
