Roland Martin was once asked for the secret to catching more bass.  He said "Go early and stay late".   If you feel good, you will fish better and stay longer.  When you are over 70 like some of us ar

That you are on the water, rather than at work!  Just my way of thinking!

Catching a fish on my first cast (or two) always makes for a great day because the skunk factor (pressure) is gone, so I can just relax and fish/enjoy the rest of the trip.

I don’t put any stock in the environmental factors or activity levels so frequently mentioned because they’ve all let me down enough times over the years to know they can’t be trusted.

Big believer now of simply being on the water as often as possible, as you can't catch ‘em if you're not there...and if you’re there enough, sooner or later good things will happen.

Well it makes me smile to know I have the same strategy as an accomplished angler like you. The more my hook is underwater, the better my chances. Simple

Every day on the water is a blessing.

You know when your putting the boat back on trailer if time on the water was better then expected.

As far as indicators I put this together in 1974 Cosmic Clock and Bass Behavior Calendar*, it’s all there.

PS, just checked Google it’s gone?

If you want a copy* I will email it.

Thanks, that is the chart, there is a few pages of explanation that helps to understand this.

If it's cloudy with a bit of breeze I know it's going to be a good day. Add a little rain and even better.

1) Light rain, light wind, 3-5 ft of tannic water and fish busting on top.

2) Hydrilla just topping out and have to change from a 3/4 oz weight to a 1 1/2 oz to get through, and get bit within the first 3 punches.

Those are the days worth falling out of bed for.

Pretty much any day on the water is going to be a good day for me. I'm 69 and getting up in age also so I'm moving a little slower and it takes the broke parts longer to wake up in the morning but I still enjoy every minute I'm fishing.

It really doesn't matter if I catch anything, I just really enjoy being outdoors.

Sun's shining....birds chirpin.... it's gonna be a beautiful day it's plain to see.  Anytime I hook up is just a bonus....

When I get to the lake and start unloading the kayak and didn't forget anything. Not the paddle, crate, fishing rods or the tackle box I actually wanted. Or the actual kayak.

How good I am at locating bass that day and putting the bait on them. Everything else is second.

I'll be 64 in October, been fishing a long time. I don't have any ritual or secret mojo that tells me when to go, or if it's gonna be good. I love fishing, and I'm thankful I can still get out there. I look forward to every fishing trip, productive or not.

If the weather lines up with what i want to do where i want to do it. Then i hit the water with a good feeling. Although it doesnt always work out the way i want.

That's the cool thing about the kayak. I substitute paddling for my cardio exercise that day, especially if there's a stiff breeze. Even if I zero it's still never a waste.

Driving home from maine a few weeks ago my now cracked windshield became the bug when a walmart 18 wheeler blew a tire 4 car lengths ahead of me and sprayed debris across 95 south. ?

In July for about 3 weeks I went out and found the fish surfacing. In a couple hours 40-60 fish. When I got back my wife would ask me how it went? I said really good. She asked what would make a great day of fishing? I said catching an 8-10 lbs hybrid along with the bass.

That is true ~ I know some bank fisherman that don't even bait their hook so they won't have to get up.
