I found out how some guys are casting 100 yards

Featured Replies

In searching for how others set up their SLX reels (not exactly what I was looking for since I have the XT version) because I run mine with 1 internal brake and a setting of 1 on the external and still not even getting fluff on either of my two SLX XTs which I found ridiculous (in a good way), I found this guy. His 120 ft cast was calculated at "just over 100 yards". Lololol ? So that's how guys are casting 100 yards. 120 ft is 100 yds in their world.

Everyone should play or attend a football game at some point, to take a good, long, hard look at the field.

100 yards my a**.

I can hit 40 MAYBE 50 with a 4oz catfish weight.

And yet people will swear to you that they're casting the length of a football field with bass gear. It's truly bizarre.

Why let the truth get in the way of a good story?

120' is a good cast.

I have a Steez with Roro-X spool that will cast 3 g that far and a bit more.

My custom Abu CT surf-lure reel will cast 1/4-oz beyond 70 yds, and easily hit the honest 100 yds with a half-ounce or more - that's on an 8' rod.

There are tips and tricks for long distance. If you look at the average bass setup and then compare it to what Tommy Farmer and the surfcasters have, it should be obvious that long distance with average bass gear is ........... uh, difficult.

But if you search the web for videos, there are a few casters getting 60-75 yards with bass gear. It's just that they know what they're doing and they know how to do it. And, like @CrashVector said, that's no spinnerbait that they're throwing! They're on a distance course.  ? ?                      jj

This guy didn’t cast 100 yds but 100 meters.

I can bomb a Spro King Daddy pretty far but nowhere close to 100 yards.  I suppose if I was TRYING, I could go 40-50?  That's 120-150 ft.  Good luck getting a fish outta of that on a frog even if you do manage to set the hook.

I have no problem getting 100 yards casting with my bass set ups. I cast 50 yards then troll away 50 more. ?

d**n…I’m going to have to change my maths.  Did I tell you the story of the 4 foot bass I caught last year?

Right? My biggest walleye this year was 76lbs...or was it 7.6lbs? Oh who cares its all the same. Oh and I can cast my Abu revo 300 yards with 12lb even tho it only holds 150.

My casts are usually just far enough.

JP mentions in the video description that it was a goof on his part.

Well, it's possible to hit well over 100 yards, but they're likely using a 5oz weight on a 12'+ surf casting rod to do it. 120 feet is a good cast by bass standards.

I can throw a few of my 5 to 9 oz swimbaits 65 - 70 yards but can't come close to that with standard gear and don't really have much need to. I do try to throw deep diving cranks and walking baits as far as possible which may on a good day hit 50 yards.

I wonder how he passed kindergarten?

This is similar to how people lost a 6lb bass that they never picked up or how their fish seem to not be as large once they get a scale lol

100 yards is a long ways, a real long ways.  At least with fly fishing I know how long I am casting pretty accurately because fly lines are generally 100' so if I get into the backing I know I went 100' (rarely needed).

A SLX reel might under extremely controlled circumstances and a good wind to your back hit 100 yards, with a Kastmaster and some covid home schooling math, a long rod and a lot of effort.

The Antares on the other hand can come alot closer, I've definitely nearly spooled my Antares and Conquests a few times with a 1 ounce spoon for stripers, but they are definitely a different class of reels than the usual gear some Abu rounds are capable also.

Yes 100 yards is possible with quality gear, but not needed in bass fishing.

With the backing on the spool, I don't think I have 100 yards of line on the reel.
