Black and brown jigs

Featured Replies

Black and blue jigs are very popular and I use them as well. I also like living rubber jigs. I’ve had good success with jigs that have a black and brown combo. I’m wondering if a black and brown living rubber jig might be a good idea. What do you think?

Why certainly ?

A bit more brown than black, on a black head, and a GP trailer with orange pincers, Boom!

Absolutely. I still use black and brown jigs quite a bit.

In fact this color combination with a Gene Larew 4" Salt Craw trailer in butterscotch color is one of my best producers in one of the Mississippi River oxbow lakes I fish quite often.

My go to colors. Brown  is my favorite with a  craw colored trailer with some fleck in it

My favorite jig and pork combo has always been black jig / brown frog or vice versa .

I like the black brown combination. I've always had better luck with different colored jig and trailers. If you're in stained water, black jig and chartreuse is a winner. Last year white jig and a pink trailer really did the job for me.

If I'm fishing really stained to muddy water I will start off with a black skirt and trailer.  If that combo won't work I will either change the trailer to blue or to brown.  If those combos don't draw any bites I figure that the bass aren't going after jigs.

Bass Patrol makes a good living rubber brown and black football jig. I have a couple of those lying around somewhere but haven't thrown that particular color yet.

purple is productive for me

Yep just a few strands of purple can go a long way, and the right trailer color will really make it pop.

I find that combo to work best on silty bottom composition. It's just dark enough to stand out on the bottom, but not overly bright. I lean more toward combinations with green as the predominate color for sandy and rock bottom and black/blue for pitching to cover.

I love a black/brown keitech football jig.  I like messing with the bass, so I use a green pumpkin trailer.

 For a reason too.

They work.
