CABIN FEVER TIME !!!!

 

This is my worst year. I usually get antsy April Fools Day.

Since retiring in 13 this is the 1st year we haven't traveled south in the winter, got the fever pretty bad. Been getting by buying tackle I don't need. 

This is also my worst year, most likely because there is a new boat sitting in my garage and I can't wait to get it in the water!  Been very bad on my wallet also, with tackle purchases.

Y’all are tough! I couldn’t do it. I saw a recent video of someone an hour north of me breaking skim ice by idling through it with a bass boat

I know that feeling.

I have soft plastics laying all over the basement floor, I've been cleaning & organizing my tackle.

The shortest month is the longest for me. This year more so because it's been and continues to be, a cold winter and the ice is thicker and will take longer to thaw. Hopefully, by mid-late March I'll be able to hit some open water a few hours south.

I’m started to get antsy myself because I am still trying to nail a bass in the winter. Just over a month left to get this particular monkey ? off of my back ?
 

This cabin fever sucks. It sometimes get so bad something has to keep my mind occupied like calculating the actual number of years I’ve been fishing in another thread. 

The temperature is barely going to top 40 degrees here today, but beginning Tuesday the daytime temperatures will be 60+ for the foreseeable future. Night time temperatures will be in the 30's and 40's for the most part, but the warming trend is here.

 

The water temperature in Oconee is still only 48-50 degrees, so I'm not willing to put the kayak in the water for a while. I fished the docks of my hotel for an hour or so over a few days and there was no activity in our cove, not even bait fish.

i am EXTRA impatient this year. ice fishing isn’t doing much for me this year. i need to be throwing a jerkbait and flipping grass

I’ve had Covid twice this year. Once in the fall and then again last week. I have leadbutt so bad, I’ve hardly been able to fish this winter. The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. I’m really looking forward to spring. Being inside all the time sucks. 

This has been a bad winter for me as well. 
 

1: My company sold to our competitor who I worked for 7 years ago and my team is slowly leaving one by one

 

2: We’re renting after selling our house and our new house won’t be done until April 

 

3: Since we’re renting all of my fishing stuff is in boxes so I can’t really go through it

 

Spring can’t get here soon enough!

Feel like driving an hour south is a better solution for said individual ??‍♂️

Told my wife last evening, if I am not on the water by mid March because of this stupid weather we are driving south with the boat for a weekend!  I may hurt someone if not!!?

My mother in law made it here in under 7 hours from holgate on Saturday. Bring it on down!

"Only" 48-50 degrees? That is summertime water temps around here (except for very shallow rivers and ponds).  OK,,,that is a slight exaggeration, but surface temps of local lakes can read 70+ degrees, but get down a few feet, and the water is always much colder.,,,often in the mid  50 to low 60 range even in summer.

I’m usually fishing water temps in the high 50s low 60s in June, reading reports on bass resource about 70 degree water way up north. Then again, the water I fish is being discharged from the bottom of 200 foot deep reservoirs. I think those small natural lakes up north warm up a lot quicker than my raging tail waters

Their Finger Lakes are almost 500ft deep up there in Upstate NY, I am sure they stay very cold at certain depths.  Going to go fish one of them with my little brother in May, he lives an hour away from them so makes a short drive for him, me not so much!  haha

One of my wife’s cousins lives Syracuse, NY. They ride a train to Toledo and someone picks them up at the station. I didn’t know that was still a thing!! 
 

when I said north I should’ve said mid west, I was imagining those small round lakes full of lily pads

This has been my toughest winter as well. 

New boat sitting in garage, my fishing buddy has a new boat. 

My cousin bought a farm that has a 15 acre and 5 acre pond that I can fish this year, clear water and looks enticing. Lol

BUT, we're still iced over here.
