Micro Chatter with a Crappie Magnet was magic before ice up. Caught some decent fish, too. One was just shy of 5 lb.

When these first came out, I had some early success with them so of course I ended up with something close to a life time supply.

For wherever reason (may have been the rage tail introduction)

they sort of fell out of favor.

As much success as you've had with that Devil spear trailer,

I am determined to give it another go this season.

I had high hopes for them as a punching bait when they came out, but they were unproductive to say the least for that. I think it was Ike that mentioned using them as a bladed jig trailer and that's when their real potential became obvious to me. 

 

You can also split the tail in 2 "fins", to get even more action.

I saw him mention that somewhere then remembered I scored one bag at a flea market awhile back. They're quite durable. I had one rigged on a Blk/Blu Project Z Weedless for months and it held up perfectly to fish, sparse pads, and junk. I lost the Z with the trailer on a zoned-out over-run/lockup one night a few months ago. Straight braid. Down to seven pcs, but they last.

With all the success of maxscent baits fished by other methods, I plan to throw some on the back of a chatter at some point this year.   I always have a few used ones floating around the boat.

 

Not sure it will make a difference but maybe it help a few fish fully commit.  I have the most success slow rolling and bumping into cover in my local lakes over burning them.

Can’t hurt to try. I’m a huge fan of the creature hawg for pitching, I’ll bet it’d do just fine on the back of a chatterbait ( think I’ll give it a try this year too).

i haven't caught a fish with the this set up but oh does it look good in the water. its a missle baits d bomb rigged on the hook with the flat side vertically and taking the first small appendage off. it looks just like a small bluegill cruising through the water.

My favorite.  Just recently discovered. Also look at Bass Assassin Split Tail Shad

I'll cut off about 1/2 of the front of a Mag II worm and thread it on the hook.  Just so the tail starts where the skirt ends.

Not really uncommon but havent seen it mentioned so I will mention it. On a fire craw chatterbait I use a BBB Swimon in flamethrower. It works good, has a skinny profile, and has gotten bites. Doesn't seem to over power the blade at all

I threw those last year..may be my new favorite trailer

I’ve had a lot of luck with a cut down UV speed worm actually.

If I didn't already have Zakos in every other color I would use them on more of my chatterbaits. Ive never fished them on its own though so would be interesting seeing how people use a Swimon besides a trailer.

It has a decent subtle action..I think it would be good on a swim jig in cold water.

I like a big creature bait like a brush hog or a craw bait. I fish it like a jig, lift and drop. 

What size eliminator are you guys using for a 3/8 or 1/2” jackhammer?  3.5” or 4.5”

I'm getting more into swim jigs this year so I might just have to try that in some pressured ponds, that is, if I get more colors because I don't have the swimon in anything but flamethrower. 

I prefer slim profiled trailers. A 6" speed worm with about an inch bitten off is a winner. And, not so secret, but perhaps forgotten about; Lunker City Slug Go in 6". 

 

Another option that I have had some success with are synthetic pork rinds. There are several of them out there these days, but a while back I bought some Otter Tails which I still have. I've done well with them on bladed and non-bladed swim jigs.
