Current Favorite Wacky Rig Hook ?

Featured Replies

For your typical 4" ~ 6" soft plastic stick worm (i.e. Senko) - what is your current favorite hook and size for wacky rigging Senkos ?  It used to be the Gamakatsu B10 S Stinger , or other straight shanked hooks similar to a modern VMC Neko hook were the most used hook styles with wacky rigged Senkos - now trailer hooks , special wacky rig , octopus and circle hooks , etc. are being used for wacky rigging Senkos ... Your thoughts and experiences with wacky rig Senko hooks ?

VMC Weedless Neko Hook 2/0

VMC weedless Neko hook 2/0 and VMC 1/16 - 1/8 Wacky jig heads.

Gamakatsu G-Finesse Weedless Wacky - Number 2 - https://gamakatsu.com/product/g-finesse-weedless-wacky/

I throw a wacky in a lot of cover most of the time and this has easily been the best I've used.  Occasionally I'll need to add a dab of superglue at the bottom of the tie on the weed guard so it doesn't slide down, but maybe one of 10 hooks.

I'd also like to add and possibly be of some help.

After the hook choice, really like the VMC crossover pliers with the VMC crossover rings.

I use #6 for 5" Senko's.

1/0 Gammy Octopus Circle, ALWAYS. Stout and never misses fish.

*I will have to try - just a reel set and hope the hook grabs in the corner of the mouth as advertised .

Standard VMC Neko hook size 2 (not 2/0).

I used to use the VMC Wacky hook but I think the longer shank of the neko helps to get a hook set in the roof of the mouth rather than in the side or down in the throat.

The 2/0 gives you a bigger "bite" for better penetration.

The long shank of the Neko hook helps with hook removal.

Last 3 posts caught my eye about a hooking problem with corner of the mouth & getting a barb to back out easily. I had some terrible times  backing out small treble barbs. That is when I switched to the crushed down routine of all trebles on lures. I I am pleased to say that with no barbs I am NOT getting hooked to the fish anymore. Hook stabs yes. But 1/4 of a second & the hook is out of my skin.

All I use. Great hooks and easy hooksets upon reeling in the line.

2/0 Gamakatsu Wide Gap Finesse

I’m in with VMC weedless Neko hook too. I use size #2, #1 and 1/0 depend how I hook Senko. If I use o-ring #2 or #1 is good enough, Senko with shrink tube I hook about 1/4 through body then #1 or 1/0, if Senko by itself hook 1/2 of the body 1/0. I use many size because I do a lot of Neko rig with different type worm from Trick worm, roboworm and full size stick worm.
If I want just plain wacky style hook (shorter shrank) 1/0 Trokar weedless wacky hook get it done for me.

So , a 1/0 size octopus / circle hook used as a Senko wacky rig hook ?   ... Next , the VMC Neko hooks appear to be pretty versatile !

Owner Jungle Weedless Wacky hook size 1 for 4”-6” Senko’s.

Very strong light weight hook.

It’s all I use. See the line move (or stop), lift the rod tip and reel it in and the hook is set.

I get the Eagle Claw weedless Neko hooks I think you can only get from WalMart. Best hookup ratio I've ever had with a wacky rig has been with those hooks.

*What is your finesse wacky rig set up with Trick Worms / Finesse Worms ? I imagine  downsized o-rings and smaller size hooks ?
