Best Suspending Jerkbait???

Featured Replies

Which one is it?

Ito vision is a slow floater but i wanted 2 add it in this list 2

Suspending Smithwick Rattlin Rogue (best for the $$$).

The Pointers are nice, but not worth the extra $ IMHO.

Fished em both, and had better luck on the rogue.

pointers are the new standard in jerkbaits

I picked pointer on the list but it depends on the day? LC and TD minnows have caught tons of fish for me but so has a $3 Rogue and a $5 Husky jerk. Someone mentioned the SK wild shiner? Well I have a silver one (gizzard shad is the name I think) that I got out of a Dick's bargin bin for $0.89 that has caught so many fish it is missing most of its paint! Now I have several $28 Megabass Visions that I cannot buy a bite on?

Allen

My top baits in no particular order:

1. LC pointer 78sp

2. LC Slender pointer 97mr

3. TD Minnow 1091

4. Smithwick Rogue

5. Husky jerk HJ-10

6. Evergreen M-1 minnow

7. Xcalibur XS4

8. SK Wild shiner

Baits that I cannot get to work:

1. O.S.P. Asura = cannot get to run right and hooks are too small

2. X-Rap = apparently I am the only person who cannot get these to work? My nose or tail down and no matter what I try they never suspend right.

3. Megabass Vision 95= I have caught fish on gummie worms, bare hooks, open snap swivels but not this lure? enough said.

4. Matsuo?= Look good in the package but run like s**t. Don't waste your time or effort for $3-5 buy a Rogue that will actually catch fish.

Jury is still out:

1. Vision 110= While I have caught some fish with this one the outbarb hooks destroy the paint and I still cannot get the bait to suspend level.

2. LC staysees= My ADD must kick in when while fishing these because I think I move them too much and never catch anything.

staysee hands down. followed by the pointer 100.

Munkin, you will never get the ito vision 110 to suspend because it's a slow floater! :D

Couldnt add more jerkbaits to the poll list

which one is the best for u T-rig?

  • Super User

I'm surprised at what has been left out of the poll:  Smithwick Rogues, Rapala Husky Jerks, and Rapala X-raps.  I bought some LC pointers on the cheap last Winter and I have to say that they blew me away.  I've had excellent results with  the Pointer 100 DD.  Having said that, X-raps and Husky Jerks aren't far behind.  And a finely tuned Rogue hangs with the best of them.  Most of my jerkbaits are these three models.

I think the Pointer is the best.

I've never used a LC pointer, or any other LC's for that matter.

#1 for me is defiantly the x-rap.  It's my top producer late fall into early spring.  #2 is going to be the rouge, but I do have problems with a few of my rouges not suspending well. (they sink)

I have a broad collection, too. One word of caution however for those just starting, the Smithwick Rogue CAN BE a very good lure, BUT many are defective or become so over time. You need to test them and tweak them when they are brand new and check them again EVERYTIME you fish one. A I think a better solution might be to just go with the other brands.

Although the LC Pointer may in fact be THE STANDARD, I have had very good luck with the Husky Jerk and X-Rap. My newest quest is accumulating a collection of Slender Pointers. ( I asked the Bait Monkey if it wouldn't be better to fish some of the lures I bought two or three years ago, for the first time, but He said NO!)

In my opinion, the "pointer", "rattlin rogue" and "X-rap" are the three best Suspending Jerkbaits.

They're so close in fact, that depending on the situation they're all Numero Uno
