Looking for opinions for a rod to throw worms as big as 12".  Something along the lines of Dobyns Champion Extreme or Gloomis GLX/NRX.  The hook, weight (1/2 oz) and 12" worm weigh 1.3 oz.  Thanks!

This is for a Texas rig application.

Not saying these are the best, but they are what I have and would throw 12” worms on. They work for me. 
 

1. Dobyns Champion DX746

2. Dobyns Sierra 766flip
3. falcon bucoo 7’3” heavy fast “amistad”
4. St Croix Bass X 7’4” heavy fast

I like the G. Loomis 844C NRX+ or the 873C CCR NRX.  I use a 1/4oz wobble head or shakey head.

Not Dobyns or Loomis but I use an Okuma TCS 7’ 3” heavy for Texas rigged and jig presentations. Rod is rated 1/4 up to 2oz. I’ve had the Champ Xtreme as well as a GLX 895 and NRX 873.

 

For me, the Okuma is just as sensitive but at a fraction of the cost.

Kistler Helium 7'6" HF.  I Like this one far better than my DX744 for dragging big worms and heavy jigs.  Balance and sensitivity outstanding

I had a dx745 for big t-rigs that wasn’t powerful enough for me so I stepped up to 746. Can’t imagine the 744.

I'll second the amistad as that's what it was designed for, but I'd say to get the expert or Cara version for the extra sensitivity on a bottom contact rod.  I have the expert and fish down to a 3/8 weight and a beaver up to a 7" swimbait with 3/8 oz weighted hook (all in about 2 oz).  No problems with sensitivity on the lighter end of things and it handles the heavier weight just fine.

I’m using a GLoomis GLX 802 for throwing 9”-12” worms.

What 12” worm weighs 1.3 oz?

I used my custom ALX 6 power jig rod rated for 3/8-1 1/4 oz lures ” 13” Upton's Custom Straight tail worms using 6/0 Owner 5103 hook very effectively.

The same rod you would throw a jig on. Personally , I only use a 1/2 oz over 20 ft. but any MH-H 7ft. + fast will be fine.

I use a Helium 7ft 3 heavy , Amistad or Dragger.

I've gotten away from the T-Rig also and use either a wobble head or heavier shaky head. 1/4-3/8.

 

Kistler Helium avg. weight 3.5 ozs, pared with a Lew's Tournament Lite at 5.3 ozs I'm good to go.

A 12" power worm, 1/2 oz weight and 6/0 hook weighs 1.3 oz on my postal scale.

OK total weight worm, weight and hook is 1.3 oz. 

Berkley Power Worms are ribbon tails, not a heavily weight worm and fishes daily lighter compared to straight rail worms. Any Jig and worm rod rated 1/4-1 oz or 3/8- 1 1/4 will work good.

This is the way. 

Pretty much any H/F rod will get it done. 

My preference is the Kistler Helium, it is light and super sensitive. If there was anywhere in your kit to spend money, I think it's bottom contact.
