Okay - after last year's massive expenditure on the F-9, I'm back to upgrading/adding to my arsenal

Looking for a good jig/worm rod that's within my budget - with specials and such the following all qualify.

Which would be the best in your opinion?

Ark Tharp 7'3" MH/F

Daiwa Tatula XT 7’3” MH/F

Denali AttaX 7'4" H/F

Dobyns Fury 734C

St Croix Bass X 7’1” MH/F

From personal experience….

Okuma TCS 7’3 heavy/fast have one rigged up for Texas rigs and the other rigged up for jigs.

VERY “under the radar” rod

Ya, unfortunately I've got a 'hard' limit of $140...very slim budget...and even without tax the Okuma is over that. The Ark, Denali and Fury squeak in under that limit.

What @MidwestBassAttack said.  Great rod for about $145.00 if you pay full retail.

Oops!  Apologies @MN Fisher!  Just saw your comment.  Wish you’d spoken up a week ago.  The TCS at Tackle Warehouse was less than $125.00 shipped and included MA tax.  Mebbe Black Friday?

I owned an Ark Money maker. I sold it and as time has gone on I've regretted doing so. I thought it had more power than what I have in my head as a MH/Fast build is. Not implying the rod is stiff just felt better on the higher end of the weights. I liked it for 3/8oz texas rigged worms and other plastics. I also used it to frog. I sold it due to too much overlap in arsenal. Compared to Dobyns I have used it would be a 734.5.  I am a fan of Eva grips and the ones on this line are really nice. The guides are semi micro if that matters to you.

I am really curious about the new Tatula XTs. Held one in a shop and seems impressive for the msrp. If I was suggesting strictly on looks it would be my choice.

Used a Tatula XT and was not impressed. The regular Tatula is way better but out of your budget.

Out of the rods listed I would go with the Tharp or Fury.

Ya - I'm not gonna have the money until probably Black Friday anyway....I am also looking at the Mojo Bass 7'1" MH/F... I'm partial to split-grips so the Tatula 7'3" MH/F is kinda on the sidelines...unless it's that much better.

I'd bet you'd be happy with the XT, especially if you like a crisp MHF. Personally I like it quite a bit more than a FR734, plus you get a down-loop hook keeper which is great for leaving skin-hooked plastics skin-hooked.

I’m going to throw out another option here, the Powell Diesel rod. At $89 it can’t be beat, they are extremely light and sensitive, they fish more like a rod double it’s price. No warranty, however most warranties these days cost that much to replace a broken rod anyway so if it breaks  it’s easier to buy a new one. I also have a Zodias, and for me it’s very hard to justify the price of that rod over the Powell.

I have owned and liked Fury rods, but (in my hands) bottom contact isn't an area where they excel. If you're looking for a straight up 100% dedicated bottom contact rod, I would shy away from the Fury. If versatility is important, that changes my opinion.

What line and weights are you planning to use?

Ya - this is purely for bottom contact. I already have a Fury 704 for general purpose work..

15# or 17# FC - 3/8-5/8 jigs, 1/4-1/2 on T&C Rigs.

Ok, I stand by my earlier opinion of moving the Fury down the list. If you had said braid, that would have been a positive for the Fury. I forgot you already owned a few, maybe you already know what I'm saying about bottom contact. They definitely aren't what I would call a dead stick, but at the same time there is nothing at all special about the feedback you get from them. (This is just my personal opinion, based on my experiences)

I'm not familiar with the other options you have listed, so I can't add much from here. I will point out that a 5/8oz jig plus trailer may weigh over 1oz depending on make and model. If you fish the 5/8oz regularly you might want to look for something rated 1 1/4oz on the top end.

Ya - I've been using my FR-704C for bottom contact with an Aird-X MH/F for moving baits...but like you said, I've not been getting the feedback. I tossed the FR-734C into the mix cause I am kinda a Dobyns fan-boy at this point...but truthfully it was down the list a bit.

Ya - 5/8 would be the top and rarely...mostly 3/8 and 1/2 jigs

Contact Dobyns to check what he has in the refurbished rods, tell him your situation, that you have been a big supporter because you have been. You be surprised!

I'm a huge St Croix fan.  I'd go with the St Croix.

Still in the running, Mike - but as it'll be a couple months before I have the cash to do this...I want all possible options on the table with evidence based reviews....not just 'feels'. ;)

Given these three statements, I'll throw another one out there for you to consider if you're open to it.  The Falcon lowrider 7'4" heavy cover jig rod.  7'4", 3/8-1 oz, fast action, heavy power, split grip.  They are $129 retail and you can get free shipping.  Some places you'll find up to 15% off for first orders.  I was fishing the Cara version last night (same taper, different graphite) and the action and power on it are just right for a longer jig rod.  I was fishing 17# FC and throwing a 1/2 oz jig with trailer.  Last time out I was throwing a 1/2 oz swing swim jig and a bigger trailer.  The falcon description is right now- light tip for accurate placement with a 6-power for pitching and flipping.  A falcon 6-power is on the lighter end of other companies 'heavy'.  Falcon also makes a 7-power which is on the heavier side of 'heavy'.

With luck - they'll still have the discount running end of November when I actually have the money...long as it gets the price under my hard limit.

Hopefully they will have them in stock.  The code changes every month though. Also, I have seen Dobyn's go on sale on their website from time to time as well.

Another place I've bought from also has Dobyns sales...usually around BF.
