Feeling really bummed today...

Featured Replies

I've had so much fun fishing this summer.  It's helped me deal with stress, I've been more relaxed, lost a few pounds, connecting with the kids, etc.  I was fishing about 4 days a week, just got new Tatula rods and reels, a bunch of new tackle, a new backpack, I was all revved up to do some serious bass fishing.

Saturday night, I tore my Achilles tendon right off the bone, taking pieces of heel bone along with it.  Along with everything else, I'm feeling really beaten down that I'm probably not going fishing again for the next few months.  I'm embarrassed to say that to my wife.  And In the grand scheme of things, it's silly, but I'm really going to miss this new hobby I found.

I completely get it..in fact I suspect there are many hardcore fishermen on this site that feel.the same way. Late last fall I started struggling with serious back pain...then this spring right around ice out it flared up even worse. I went fishing anyway but I'd like if I didn't say it was at times miserable. Then in April it got really bad...like can't stand up straight bad. I was super bummed. But I got some therapy and incorporated some stretches and exercises into my routine and that helped.

How did you tear it? Sounds awful

Sorry to hear that. About 5 years ago i started stretching my achilles on each foot because i had a flare up of planter faciitis.

My planter faciitis went away and never came back but i kept stretching my achilles every 4 days as part of my stretching routine to this day.

Using a foam roller against a wall putting my heel on the floor and toes up high on roller with foot at the steepest upward angle i can achieve and lean forward.

I’m also wondering how this occurred. Please tell

Hate to hear that.   That said, once you get bitten by the Bass bug, it never leaves you even though you occasionally have to leave it.    The Bass will be there when you recover pal.

Here's to really speedy recovery!

Good thing you don't reel with your feet!

Seriously though, wife notices that I get a little grumpy if I don't get to fish. There's nothing quite like being outside, especially now that summer is done around here. I hope it heals up fast for you.

You just need proper footwear and you can keep fishing. Careful the bait monkey works double time when you're not fishing.

Sorry to hear that. Try to use your desire to fish again as part of your motivation during the recovery process. You’ll be back at it before you know it. Good luck!

That's a nasty injury. Hope you heal quickly.

Sorry @DFWO to hear about the injury, hope you’re healed up by spring when the big girls want to dance. The bait monkey is always willing to help with retail therapy so you’ll have all kinds of new gear to employ when you get back out on the water

How did it happen?  Ugh...

Carrying a bulky, heavy box down some stairs, and the dog wanted to play.  He dropped his toy under my next step, and when I stepped down, I thought I was stepping on the dog. With all my weight on that foot, I popped up on my toes, and that's all she wrote.
