I remember seeing a letter my grandmother wrote to

my dad before he came back from the Korean War. Trying to organize a welcoming home party for him, saying she hoped the weather improved in time. Then she said, well this is Minnesota, if you don’t like the weather just wait 10 minutes. That was 70 years ago. We’re due to be wetter than average here in Minnesota in the next year or two and chances are we will. 
 

The climate has always changed and it always will. Every day somewhere on this planet there is a new record high temp and a record low, drought and floods... always been this way. I have seen data presented that our cycles follow El Niño/La Nina  closer than you’d think. Those cycles are dependent on the sun, not influenced by our activities. 
 

I’m not saying the climate doesn’t evolve over time, but there are a lot more pressing issues facing this world.

We are pulling out of drought here in PA. Hope we keep getting it. 

Well, our drought in southern Arkansas may be over soon. It's raining like pouring pee out of a boot today! Supposed to rain pour the biggest part of the day. Downside, chance of severe weather too.

The Mississippi River is -10.7 ft, but expected to rise 3 ft this weekend. The forecast

here in Memphis is 1.5"- 2" of rain.

The Mississippi River isn’t just affecting crops, I haul powdered cement (along with other powdered goodies) for a concrete company. Our main source comes out of Festus Missouri and it’s been a struggle all year long. Other factors come into play also.

All these data points were red and yellow a couple weeks ago, we are doing a bit better

There appears to be some improvement on the horizon.  Record warmth this week will end on Thursday night, hopefully with some heavy rain.  There also appears to be a chance of rain on and off this weekend and again next Tues/Wed, coupled with much colder temps.  I know its going to take a lot of regular moisture to get out of this drought, but we can only hope this is the start of it.

 

So maybe the pattern is starting to shift.

 

I'll be deer hunting for 8 or 9 days starting on Saturday.  Thankfully the temps look much cooler than they are this week.  70+ degrees is WAY too warm to be deer hunting.  Not only does it inhibit daytime deer movement, when you shoot one it can spoil quickly.

The latest drought monitor released today.  Extreme drought has expanded basically from border to border along the Minnesota River valley here.  I'm actually kind of surprised that this area isn't in extraordinary drought (the worst classification) now.

We're finally going to get some rain here in north Central Mo tomorrow. We need it badly. Expecting 2" or more.

Latest posting from the NWS Twin Cities...this thing has been going on for over 2 years now.

 

"Though we've talked a lot about precip deficits in the Twin Cities since June 1st, this drought can really be traced back to July of 2020. In the 28 months since then, 23 of them have seen below normal precip, with the precip deficit from July 20-Oct 22 at 20.03".

 

The 6-10 day outlook looks favorable.  Keep it coming.

In Richmond, Virginia, we have millions of acorns on the ground that have fallen from the oak trees.

This is a sign of a winter with with lots of ice, snow, and low temperatures.

our latest and current rain event is like the clouds have an enlarged prostate.  raining in morse code. I dont think we have exceeded 1" yet.  

 

just enough to jack up my yard, get my dog to put paw prints throughout the house, and make my truck really wet.

 

yesterday, I was compelled to drive my 94 year old neighbor to her crafts fair where she sells her knitted products.  there were 3 accidents along the way.  I went back to pick her up and load her wares.  drivers here are not adverse weather drivers.  

This summer the wife and I traveled out west from Maine for two months and 8400 miles. Good trip. But, have you ever seen those backyard inground swimming pools on some TV show that are abandoned and all there is, is a puddle of rainwater in the deep end? That's what those states looked like everywhere we went and camped. We camped at one place in Nebraska. There was a lake way off in the distance. The camp ranger talked to us. We were sitting in camp chairs on the edge of the lake. Sure enough it was gravel about five feet from us. The water was maybe1000 feet away.

I got about an inch of snow out of that yesterday.

 

Looks like 3-4 inches for the southern part of the state tonight into tomorrow.  Don't think we'll get any of that.

 

But...a more potent storm could be arriving Tues/Wed of next week.  This one could be a mix of rain, sleet, ice, and snow.
