Thank you, Sir. I do not have FFS but I have learned enough from Josh and Milliken to know that these big fish are roaming chasing bait. I can find the bait with my electronics and will have to hope that one is around them and likes me!

First off, I'm jealous of anyone that catches giants like that. The technology is what it is, and it's only going to get better. I imagine it won't be long before someone comes out with glasses that provide you a real time feed from FFS.

 

I'm on the fence as to whether or not it should be allowed in tournaments below the elite bass pros. I think I'd rather see guys come up through the ranks based upon their skill and not how much money they have to spend on technology.

I like your game plan and that's how I fish my lake.   Just getting to fish that lake in the winter will be exceptionally exciting knowing what's swimming underneath you potentially.

I'm not a big wave surfer, but I love the documentaries about them.    Basically a select few big wave chasers watch the weather all year long, and then fly out a few times a year to far off places when the swells are going to be epic.

 

This sounds similar to OH Ivie at the moment.   Everybody is flocking there.

Loved hearing straight from JJ about these "issues."  But, I'm finding myself feeling different about Zaldain after watching this!  His fishing persona always seemed "much."  Probably just how the edits emphasize only one side of his personality.

Finally have a report. I did not get released by my knee doc until last week. I fell after having knee replacement surgery and caused all kinds of mayhem! Fished Ivie for 3 days. I caught fish every day but no giants relatively speaking. I had a 20+lb best 5 every day but no DD's (not even close) but I am not complaining. This is an amazing lake! There was a 13+ caught while I was there and somebody at the marina said there was another one but they did not want to donate it to the SAL program and just released it. I believe that is 14 fish over 13 that have been donated this year from Ivie alone. 

 

As I said earlier I do not have FFS so I fished with the electronics I have and did OK. All of my fish were in traditional pre-spawn staging areas. I did not catch any of the "roamers" Josh talks about. Every fish I caught was on a swimbait,  the Keitech 7.8 on a 1/2 oz Dirty Jigs Matt Allen jig head. When I ran out of those I used  Jeff Piil's custom swimbaits for the last day and a half. You can find him on Facebook if interested.

 

As an observation, I do not know how this lake keeps producing these giants. The fishing pressure now is unbelievable - it was hard to find a spot without 8-10 boats in viewing distance. I think the best chance to catch a fish of a lifetime is in the dead of winter in this area (Jan-Feb) when most of the anglers stay indoors.

I wanted to hear about the pressure aspect the most, sounds like it's boat to boat.   I'd want to be fishing a lake that has 17lb fish swimming around as well.

Thank you for the kind words. I am pretty sure there are bigger in this tank. The 17+ that was caught last year was released after spawning back in to Ivie by TP&W. That fish is probably 18 and you know it's not the only one. The key to Ivie's future will be rain. It cycles badly in drought conditions which have been historical.

 

I think you will see more and more lakes produce these unicorns as the locals master FFS. It has always been the great unknown where these fish go when they move offshore. Josh and others now have proved that they are constantly roaming in deep water.

That's a prop from the marina. TX record is still intact.

Just as the current Texas record, I do believe live bait will catch the next one but on purpose this time - not Crappie fishing! I can just imagine FFS and a HD drop shot with a  7 or 8 inch gizzard shad or a big bluegill.

Sounds like chickamauga 10 years ago. The whole world was fishing there, nowadays 15 lbs will win a big tournament

      If you don't think using the latest live scan sonar is fair, sporting, or for any reason something you don't want to use, than don't buy or use it.  As long as fish population, or other anglers experience isn't negatively effected, than I say it's a free country.

      Using dynamite, or electroshocking bass are methods, that are very effective, while universally considered unsportsmanlike, but are illegal because of the effect they have on the fishery.

FFS will result in more muskies dying unintentionally because they will be caught in deep water offshore during the summer where they go to escape the heat.

It also results in lowered bag limits on panfish which is already happening in some places. Now when the rest of us have a good day you cant take as many home because the limits need to account for the guide on the same lake using FFS getting his clients on a limit way more often.

FFS not a big deal in my eyes for catch and release bass fishing but I'm otherwise not a fan. Won't blame anybody like this for using it if it's legal. It's the same as ice fishing being able to see instantaneous feedback from the fish but without being limited in mobility by the ice. You can just harass them until they finally bite, basically bed fishing year round in deeper water. I know it's a lot more difficult than that but as people learn it and the tech becomes more user friendly there won't be such a big learning curve.
