Braid to fluoro for everything

Featured Replies

So, currently I'm running braid to fluoro on all my casting equipment because I tend to have fewer issues with backlash when compared to straight fluoro. (I know, I need to get better with my thumb). What are your thoughts? Will I loose some fish on trebles (using walmart Medium power Garcia rod) by using this setup that stretches less or will the lighter rod have enough give to make up for it? I know I'm overthinking and I should just go put a line in the water since I'm pretty green with bass fishing but I'm obsessive and want to make sure I don't give the fish any advantage as they have already proven that they are smarter than me!!?  Thanks in advance for your input!

You will be fine.

Go get 'em!

I run straight braid on all my bait-casters, and have since the 1990's.

Recently switched from mono to braid/floro on my spinning gear.  Love it.

You will be fine!

Fish a lot of river bass , Straight Braid and no leader. Hope you tear em up

I'm braid to fluoro on all my setups for the last 20+ years and don't see a reason to change

Braid to either fc or mono on everything, spinning and casting except my punch and frog set up. Like the above you'll be fine.

Only time I would use a leader is if I was fishing for ones with teeth. Straight mono, braid, or floro has done me well the last two decades.

There you go. Just enjoy your journey and the new skills your going to attain. The more you fish the more questions you’ll have just like the rest of us. ?

All my gear are based in braid to leader/FC/Nylon. Lower lb braided is just terrible when abrasion is at play.

It is very popular method, if you like it go for it. I perfer straight nylon for versatility but, I know others like a P.E mainline leader system

I started in baitcasting using nylon, but braided line gained my confidence. Another reason for the leader is the braided getting tangled in the treble hooks.

I use braid to fluorocarbon on everything as well. Spinning and casting. I started doing this because I had lots of issues with the braid fraying on rocks in the river.

With a soft rod, you will be fine. If you're really worried about it, grab some stretchy mono for leaders with treble hooks and topwater (big game works well). Just be aware you probably won't feel much stretch. As mentioned above, I prefer a leader for treble hooks because it drastically cuts down on hooks fouling in the line. Also, use appropriate drag.

I don’t think you’re going to have any problems, I think  knowing when to set the hook is more important than how hard you set it.
